RESOURCES BELOW!

Today I'm sharing 9 style tips to stop buying into trends you don't like. These style habits were so helpful to me to become a more intentional shopper and stop buying trends. I hope you find them helpful if you are trying to build a slow fashion closet.

On this channel, I share #slowfashion and #sustainablefashion tips that center around how to #shopyourcloset, and restyling pieces you already own. I also spotlight brands that I believe in every now and then. I believe in #creativityoverconsumption, and that we all have the power to be conscious consumers.

Slow fashion looks different for everyone, and I'm so grateful you share this space with me!

I love slow fashion. It never goes out of trend. Love to keep good quality timeless jewelry and clothing.

I have two three word options to describe my style. One for work and one for every day life. This works wonderfully well.

I enjoyed this video. The issue for me is that my body has changed (not running as much, turned 70) so I don't feel comfortable wearing what I used to be able to wear and and am very (extremely?) frustrated, needing to how to look nice but not 'old' or dowdy. I am classic and athletic and will have to do some serious soul searching to find what suits me now. Thank you for your continued guidance.

Great advice. I rarely buy clothes that I don’t wear because I stopped buying for my fantasy self. I buy clothes suited to my daily life and the size that I am today.

Off the Hampster Wheel going on a year now. You are so realistic.

Such a beautiful video! Loved the backdrop - what a calming environment. Getting the dopamine hit from being outdoors in the beautiful weather 😀. Great tips, as always! For myself, I have been taking my son with me to window shop. Nothing like “Mom, you don’t really need that. Aren’t you doing a no spend challenge?” to keep a gal in check 😂

Handy tip: if you put something into your cart online and wait for a few days, many (most?) websites will send you an email discount to try to get you to buy. If you have definitely decided to purchase something, it’s a handy way to get it for less.

I’m having the best style period now at 47 years old. I am so happy the 90s trends are back. I suppose I have always clung to them, and never stopped wearing them. Now that it is back, i feel “trendy” but with better styling experience and better quality items…

Thank you Alyssa, you always give me food for thought. I am retired now and come from a Corporate background. I have a lot of difficulty coming to terms with my more casual lifestyle. I am able to incorporate my old work blazers into more casual outfits, but have difficulty styling some of my tops and skirts yet I still gravitate towards those items even though I’m not actually wearing them.

OMG! I haven't watched this video just yet, but I couldn't click on this title quick enough. Watching now... Thank you, Alyssa for knowing what I need to hear.

That last one is really good advice. Being a petite woman, I often ask myself about the model: How tall is she?, Are the lines/is the silhouette perfect for her but not for me?
Thanks for another good video.

Hi Alyssa! I usually don't comment, but when I saw your heart earrings, I got very excited. My mother-in-law bought me handmade hammered heart stud earrings back in the early 90s and I have kept them all these years and don't wear them often. I always felt that they were no longer in style for so long. But seeing you with something similar on, I am inspired to shop my jewelry box and bring them back out! Thank you so much for for that!!

Love these ideas, I’ve never followed trends but really liked what you said about appreciating them and then moving on. I will often decide on what I’m wearing while walking my dogs, it gives me time to look at my day and figure out how I feel with what is going on.

Great video! There's a lot of common sense in what you said. One thing that I've been doing and I found very helpful is to keep a record of every piece that I bought during a year or more. I come back to the list from time and I write things like "I only wore this once" "not good quality" "I loved this, I've worn it a lot"
I also write a wish list for the following months or seasons and then revisit it and check if I still want those things
It helps me identify my own patterns and keep track of how much money I spend on clothes as well.
It takes time and patience but I think it's worth it.

Thank you for another brilliant video. I spent the past days in Paris and of course I was tempted to get something new for the autumn. Somehow I kept thinking of your advise, asking myself, what are the elements of style in the "new look" and what do I have in my own wardrobe that I can use in order to create similar vibes. I even left one of my favourite shops, Sézane, empty-handed 😅

Very informative, as always. Tips 4, 6 and 8 really resonated for me, such great sensible advice.
I loved Apollo's cameo appearance! By the way, Bellissimo Giardino!

I always like the questions you give thought to. Gets me thinking about my own thoughts on consumption. Trying to buy more timeless pieces and not buy in to the fast fashion.
