VW Mk7.5 Golf GTI TCR, What is it? And is it worth the extra?

Join me on a road test in our latest Golf, a Golf GTi TCR

We have had just about every variation, Edition 30s, Clubsport, Clubsport S, Performance Pack and now this, the Performance Pack Bases TCR

As lovely as it looks with its new front Splitter, rear Apron, Clubsport Wheels and small decal pack, does it driver that much better than a regular GTi Performance Pack?

Not forgetting the is38 turbo from the golf R so it is pretty much best of both worlds. Top end of the R but fun FWD. I want one!!!

I seriously looked at the TCR a couple of years ago as a potential upgrade from my 7.5R and like you say to experience a more agile drive. . but just couldn’t pull the trigger as my R is the last of the manuals and a 3 door too. . good to hear the honest conclusions of your review and imagine I would probably feel the same 👍😎

had my tcr 3 years its almost perfect all rounder its been 99% reliable seen 48 mpg at a steady 70mph amazing

the tcr when moving is faster than a R it does have the R engine but is 100kg lighter, only 840 tcr's in the uk looks better than a R and more fun to drive with only a front diff . dont realy need dcc in the 18 inch wheels but 19's yes and you get a sports pack with it together . i had a gti pp and went TCR to me it's a big upgrade the golf R just felt heavy .

How much different are the exhaust tips on the TCR vs the standard exhaust on MK7.5 GTi? I want the rear diffuser but not sure if the cutouts in the diffuser will be too large for my stock exhaust

I dont think the one you're driving has the performance pack, so it wont have the higher top speed, and doesnt have DCC (as you rightly mention) -be better to drive with DCC in sport mode! But that said, can only review what's in front of you ...

Compared to the mk7.5 Golf R I had, the TCR is so, so much more fun, playful and engaging to drive. And you don't see them everywhere, like the R 😂
