If you want to study neuroscience, these are some of the books you can read to prepare for the course:

For Social Neuroscience:

👉 Projections: a story of human emotions by Karl Deisseroth (2021). The book tells the stories of some of Deisseroth's patients and explores their different conditions and explains some of the related brain functions.

For Brain Anatomy:

👉 A history of the brain: from Stone Age surgery to modern neuroscience by Andrew P Wickens (2014). This book tells the full story of neuroscience, from antiquity to the present day. It also covers the developments of Modern Neuroscience so it’s a great resource to learn about the main principle and paradigms.

👉 The human brain coloring book by Marian C. Diamond and Arnold B Scheibel (2000). I recommend buying this book if you’re serious about learning about the structure and function of the brain. It’s very interactive and it really helped me to learn about the planes of sections and dimensions.

For Neuropsychology:

👉 Cognitive Neuroscience: The biology of the mind by Michael Gazzaniga, Richard Ivry and George Mangun (1998). A must-read for learning about the latest discoveries and clinical applications in Cognitive Neuroscience.

👉 Neuroscience by Dale Purves (2011). It’s a classic textbook that can help you to learn about the nervous system, sensory systems and complex brain functions.

For Mental Health and Wellbeing:

👉 Biological Psychology by Fred Toates (2011). It’s a great book for neuroscience or psychology students with little experience of biology, it will help you to understand the biological foundations of the human mind.

You can get these books for free from your uni library and you can take them home for 7 days or longer. Do you prefer to read paper books or digital versions online?
