Table tops or large exposed flat areas (doors, wide furniture pieces, big cabinets, etc): YES! Other stuff, not so much. It doesn’t matter until it does, and it’s very hard to predict which pieces will show a difference.

Great video, I prefer without the conditioner…..it’s nice to see when things aren’t uniform.

Hi guys much better with conditioner as it seems to make it look more alive & there's more going on on the wood, thanks for letting us know how to beautify our wood to make it pop, good luck on future projects so please keep it coming coming from Dulwich London England (✌️peace ✌️)

I've done Hardwood flooing for 25 years. Its about the same thing as water popping?

I like them both, depends on the look I want. But thanks for showing the difference. Now I know 😊

I plan to use conditioner on my oak ice box end tables just because I'm a perfectionist and want to know it will be even. Everyone seems to say don't worry about using it on oak, since it's a hardwood. I'm doing it. Thoughts?

The conditioner depends on the stain and finish you want. I have done many pieces without conditioner because it would not transition as well.

Yeah the pre-stain wood conditioner does work but it's expensive. You can get the same results without any flaws in it by water popping and water doesn't cost a penny unless you want to put a little denatured alcohol in it so it will evaporate quicker.

Do you use oil or water based conditioner?

Have you ever tried a homade pre conditioner? 3 TBS wood glue, 3 TBS stain in a quart of water. I tried it on pine and it was a huge success.

I'm an old guy with poor hearing. Sorry to say that the music is very distracting, making it difficult to hear your voice.

Do you use water or oil based stains? Want to refinish my father’s oak desk this winter. Any recommendations for refinishing pine?

All depends if you want it lighter or darker on your project,

a washcoat of dewaxed shellac and lacquer thinner is even better to prevent splotching in your softer woods.
