The video describes the 5 different tiers of Universities in the USA. Although not much objectivity went into this tier list, do we really ever rank things on objectivity. Comment below what you agree and don't agree with, this is a great place to see what people think about this. Hopefully one day there are no tiers for Universities.

In what universe is Ohio State in the same tier as UCLA?

The way this video doesn’t make people who go to lower tier schools seem less than is absolutely fantastic. Different schools for different people, your college doesn’t decide your self worth. Props.

Just to let those reading the comment know! If you start out at a community college, you can always move up to a Tier V school! I went to community college and got accepted in to Stanford, so always believe in yourself!

Also, I must add that what school you end up at is also dependent on your major. I’m currently studying computer science and the schools I want to attend like uc Berkeley have a 4 percent acceptance for my major where as if I were to chose a different major it would be a different story. Point being, it isn’t always so black and white

I think Georgetown would be the perfect tier 4 school instead of maybe Ohio State. Great academics, hard to get into, but not as tough as Yale, Columbia, Harvard, Stanford, etc.

How’s Ohio State a T4 with a 50%+ acceptance rate and mid range UC’s are T3 with acceptance rates in the 30%’s?

These tiers seem really important when you are in that stage of life. But as an old fart, I can tell you regardless of which tier you attend, you are going to have to hustle, make good decisions, and have great people skills to move up in the professional world. Cream always rises to the top eventually. I have seen it firsthand, and which tier you attend will not predict where you are 10 or 20 years after you graduate.

What the "top schools" don't want you to know, is that you can get pretty-much the same education for 1/10th the cost at your local state college(s). For an undergrad degree, you get out what you put into it. Grad school is a different story.

How much are you smoking? UCLA and Ohio State is like not even comparable lmao.

i feel like community colleges are pretty good bc they’re a lot cheaper so lesser fortunate students can go and you pretty much got less overall debt at the end of college

I would move some schools like UCI to tier 4 since it's about the same tier as U Austin but bump up UCLA to tier 5 since it's basically a California Ivy

Honestly you underestimate how hard it is to get into of these school especially this year. It's looking like UCLA and possibly Berkeley are going to hit the single digit acceptance rates.

You also seem to value college way too much compared to other people. My parents both made six figures at one point of their life and they don't even have a bachelors. College isn't everything.

And wtf is OSU doing in tier 4 that shit's party city.

I was accepted to 'Tier 2' & if I played sports could have gone to Tier 1. Rather than taking on debt (I come from lower middle class), I stayed at home/commuted (U of Akron: a.k.a. the 'cheapest option'), graduated in 3 years, with NO DEBT & went on to Medical School. Now, my family is extremely well off; but it was all due to hard work. There is more than one way to achieve your goals. I only stumbled upon this clip as I am pondering what to do with my kids in a few years as they are quite bright & we can afford most any tuition. From my experience, I am uncertain of the cost of high flying school is worth it. We will see!

I think the tiers and what types of people go to colleges in those tiers is pretty spot on, however, the schools in each tier are so scramble. Also, this neglects the fact that people who really know what they wanna do/study in college may be more likely to choose a less prestigious school if it caters to their needs.

For A&M, it’s engineering would be a tier 4. It’s harder to get into the engineering college and it is ranked much higher than most of the rest of the school.

UC Berkeley abs UCLA are like a tier 4.5, not good enough to be ivies but pretty close when comparing the top majors/studies

Texas A&M is more in the middle because it's not as good as UT Austin stats wise but they still have the same top 10% rule to get in and that's the majority of their admits. However, I think UT might be top 7% right now.

Yeah dude tier two is pretty spot on. I just want to get away from my family and have some fun but at the same time make them proud by doing something they’d never thought I’d do. I’m going to TXST next fall.

for those confused about ohio state's place, it might be due to the graduate programs which are quite good or the honors undergraduate program which is pretty selective.
but yeah the straight undergraduate 40k students is not that selective
