I blame Canada's immigration officers for not having enough brain cells to distinguish between fake and genuine students. I was supposed to go to Canada for my PhD last year. Had letters of reference from my supervisors in Canada as well as official documents from the university I teach at in my home country that confirmed that I would be returning to my post after my studies and that my studies would lead to my promotion at work. Despite all this, Canada refused my study permit application because apparently I did not seem like a genuine student. Meanwhile, I see hundreds upon thousands of people in my country who use fake documents yet somehow get their study permits approved. All of these people drop out of school the second they land in Canada and start looking for work. This has been going on for years and I'm starting to think some sort of conspiracy is at play because I look at people that Canada allow to enter the country and people to whom they deny entry and honestly none of it makes any sense.

international students are not "immigrants".. they are international students.

Step 1: Invite a lot of immigrants in, going as far as to run "Move to Canada" ads and programs in other countries. Step 2: Ignore citizens voicing their concerns about the decrease in jobs and housing as inflation rises. Step 3: Act like the mass immigration isn't your own fault and start implementing policies that will screw over the least problematic group while still ignoring the major issues...

Because we don’t have enough hospitals, doctors, schools, teachers ir houses for all the people! And we are suffering and our country is degrading. We are all immigrants here except first nations peoples, but our society is in trouble! Our governments, local, provincial and federal can not manage our tax dollars properly so they brung in new people like a cash machine… except we cant keep up!!!

As an Indian I approve of this. While it hurts a lot of genuine students, there are a lot more people who have this unhinged craze to try to get to Canada. They don’t care what job they’l work, which college to go to, NOTHING. Also it’ll help a lot with our brain drain.
To Those who think it’s a bad idea: UAE has never given citizenship to foreign nationals, and because of that they get their labour while the money flows back to India, and many communities including mine have profited from such a relationship

This is not about the students, this is about the government recklessly allowing hopeful young people to think they can settle here, letting both their own citizens AND the students struggle, then make another reckless decision like this. “Changing your mind” decisions like this affect a LOT of people, they should have thought about this all sooner.

I’m from the uk, I’m a uni student. there’s an insane amount of international students who come here and pay people to do their assignments for them so that they can work and make money. they only come here to make money, not studying. the only way they get to enter countries like Canada and the uk is through student visas. it’s insane how immigration officers don’t see what’s going on. 🤦‍♂️

They shouldn’t be staying here to live if they came here to learn.

It's too little to late. The situation with overpopulation of habitable zones and lack of housing is already making canadian themselves inmigrants, and the quality of life in the country has decreased significantly. I have noticed it, so have my friends and family. There is a significant brain drain to the US.

Inmigration was never suposed to be allowed in this scale, Canada is a big country, yes. But due to its geography the amount of land where you can live and have a good quality of life is rather limited, that is not even mentioning the services that are at capacity. I as a Canadian was basically going without health care and have developed chronic issues and have to self medicate because our health care is so at capacity that you are not taken seriously unless you are old, dying, or at high risk. Just a few years ago, thinking that i will be in the position where i will have to have issues untreated or self medicate due to lack of health care was unthinkable for me, that was the sort of thing you will hear from the US where people cant afford health care, or from 3rd world countries, now the stories i used to hear from bad health care abroad, have become common in canada. And the doctors themselves are moving as part of the brain drain too

İnternational students are interviewd before receiving their visa. They are asked if they plan on staying in Canada after their studies. They can only get their visa if they say they will not stay in Canada. The students that want to stay are violating their visa agreement.

Well, about 25 years ago when I was a student, international students couldn't work or apply for immigration after. They knew they were coming to get a degree they couldn't get in their home country, usually those countries give Canadian degrees high regards. The government became greedy and changed the rules, now they regret it.

I can see their reasoning behind it. With limited resources, it makes sense to prioritize your own citizens first (jobs and housing). At the end of the day, international students are guest in their host country (to get an education that you otherwise couldn't get in your own country). If they decide not to accept any more, it is their right to do so.
Imagine a guest getting angry at you for asking them to leave your house...

One private school that I haven't even heard of as a Canadian, accepted over 4, 000 international students but the school could only accept 2, 000 students max! They literally took the students money, which was an excessive amount, and basically said, 'oh you can't study at our school coz it's full, but we're not going to give you your hard earned money back either despite charging you so much money that people had to literally sell your own homes in you own countries to afford it.'

Its honestly disgusting and disgraceful! I feel ashamed as a Canadian. And our unemployment rate for teens are over 17% (last time I checked)

Canada was begging people mostly professional to be citizens of Canada in early 1990 till date. Now I hear this news.
