Acids, Bases, and pH

Paul Andersen explains pH as the power of hydrogen. He explains how increases in the hydronium ion (or hydrogen ion) concentration can lower the pH and create acids. He also explains how the reverse is true. An analysis of a strong acid and strong base is also included.

I swear in my 12 years of schooling, no one ever told me pH refers to the power of hydrogen.

Soo, halfway into the video and all I can think is,

"I am so fucked for the test tomorrow."

Honestly? my advanced biology teacher assigned this video and I looked at it and was like “absofuckinglutely not” but as I watched it I started to understand more and more about what we are learning in class. I, a 17 year old senior, give this video an A+. it was clear, concise, and it kept my attention. Thank you for your service.

Mr. Andersen, you are an awesome teacher.. clear, engaging and mindful to apply the concepts along the way to construct a bigger picture where one not only learns about the components, but also how the parts add up and apply to the bigger picture!  So much more informed and confident in understanding Chem. Excellent teaching! You are a real blessing! Thank you!

We're wrapping up our studies on pH, acids, and bases. This has helped me clarify my understanding and go a little more in depth, thanks Paul!

I literally want to cry. Years of chemistry classes and I never truly understood what makes acids acidic and bases basic or even what pH is really a measure of. Thank you thank you thank you!!

"p" is an old mathematical symbol meaning "to the negative log of"
pH=-log[H3O]
