I've been confused by trig for years. I've read several books & still can't get any traction. Can you answer these questions for me?

A) What do sine, tangent, & secant mean? I know about the ratios, I want to know what they relate to geometrically that makes the ratios valid.

B) How does solving for sin, or tangent, etc. help you to find the unknowns of a triangle? Don't you have to take those answers to the trig tables to get the final answer?

So what does the sin/cos/tan of an angle do for you? Are the numbers used in some formula to determine the other angles of a triangle?
