Movie News Roundup! - CineFix Now

Alas, we couldn't get everyone together for a roundtable this week, because it's Independence Day, and it would be UNPATRIOTIC. Also, everyone from the office skipped town early for the long weekend, so no dice. But here's some stuff we still thought was worth mentioning:

Prometheus was not that bad. Saying its awful is a complete exaggeration. The Counselor was fucking awful.

When I saw the thing for Frozen in Once Upon a Time, I'm thinking to myself "great, ABC combining two things I hate into a clusterfuck of awful." Sorry everyone, but I hate Frozen.

"But that was like 30 years ago" funny I don't remember Charlton Heston parting the red sea to 99 red balloons. Oh wait that's because that movie wasn't made in 1984 it was made almost 60 years ago in 1956.

The pilot of The Leftovers is so annoying, like, really boring. Whenever someone tells me a story of people who vanished from nothing, comes to mind two great series: The 4400 and Les Revenants, which is fabulous.

However, though 2% of the population isn't seemingly that big of a deal, if it is world population it equates to around 140 million people, which would cause more than a few riots I would think.

The Ten Commandements was 60 years ago, not 30 years.

Also, I think that even though in practical terms 2% less population on the planet is not that big a deal economically speaking (and they do talk about that in the pilot episode, it's not like they sweep that under the rug), how can you say that if it were to happen, it wouldn't have a big impact on the world? It's an illogical bending of the laws of physics and nature. Matter simply vanishing from this planet. It's a supernatural event that has actually happened and no one denies it. That alone sets off all kinds of debates and problems and the two cults that we see in the series are not at all hard to imagine happening IF such an event were to occur (which most probably won't, of course).

I liked Prometheus, it wasn't perfect but it was not a bad movie.

I'm sick to death of all these bible stories played out in movies. If we want to see ancient Egypt then don't redo the same story over and over again. Instead do some Egyptian mythology or just Egyptian history. Hell, have a Game of Thrones-esque show based in Ancient that last one, I'll do that one myself :)
