All this week, a different member of the CineFix team is telling you their Best of 2014, where they’ll let you know their picks for the best blockbusters and indie movies of the year.

For Mackenzie, her top blockbuster of the year was Gone Girl (Pro Tip: not a first date movie)

And her favorite smaller movie was Whiplash, starring Miles Teller and the always-amazing J.K. Simmons.

Have you seen Gone Girl or Whiplash? What was your favorite indie or blockbuster this year? Did we inspire you to check out a movie you may have missed in 2014 (or re-watch one you did?)

Let us know in the comments below!

Mackenzie, you are the best part of cinefix! You should really do more of these. Not only area you beautiful to watch, but your movie insights are always so thoughtful and eloquently stated. Thanx

The best one so far, Mackenzie has a great taste. I just don't think that separating indie flicks with blockbusters is the most efficient. What if there's 20 indie movies better than the best blockbuster in a certain year?

honestly the best two picks I've seen on CineFix

I love your sweater.
I heard that Gone Girl is insanely edited.
I find all vids from Cinefix cast very useful, I'm not up to date with movies so end of the year is great moment to make a list of films to watch.

Thank god as much recognition this movie gets it isn't enough

I fell for Mrs Pike on the movie "Barney's Version". Reason? They really don't make that many love stories that take over a long period of time (years) anymore. Sidenote: I believe she is the first female ever to narrate a bond book (audio book).
Best indie for me? The Grand Budapest Hotel
:)

Whiplash might just be my favorite movie of the year, if J.K. Simmons & Miles Teller don't get nominated for an Oscar this year - I'll be shocked.

Yah, totally agreeing with these picks here. The other vid I watched some chick picked The Lego Movie as her #1 movie of the year. What a joke.

Uh..., if you think Teller did such a good job, how come he did not get nominated for Golden Globe or Academy? Most people would mention Simmons' performance more so than Teller, and Simmons got one nomination.

I may not agree with your pick;but I understand it. This in my opinion is a reasonable pick. One of your associates picked Lego movie as Best?! Great fun but best of the year?? Another picked Jump Street?? As best of the year? again fun but best?? Like the direction and acting in Lego and Jump Street have surpassed all?? Ahh no.Great pick not mine but at least reasonable.

I haven't watched Gone Girl yet, but that comparison with that other movie and how you need to watch it twice to pick up some clues sounds kinda spoilerish, Mackenzie... T_T

Gone Girl was overrated garbage. Awful ending to a subpar movie.
