Renowned political scientist John J Mearsheimer blamed NATO’s expansionist agenda as the main reason for Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine. In an exclusive interview with Zakka Jacob, the Chicago University professor said that the US has been trying to turn Ukraine into a de facto member of NATO and Russia views this as an existential threat. Mearsheimer also explained who stands to gain most from the war. Watch this full interview where for all details.

The fact the pentagon and the state department has become a revolving door to lobby groups for oil and weapons manufacturers is a very serious problem and responsible for a lot of our foreign policy.

Defense industries that sell weapons globally always profit from any war. That is true in Ukraine right now.

I just came over here from a Yale Uni lecture from Mearsheimer, posted 2017, where he states that Ukraine trying to join NATO would cause Russia to invade.
He called it.

Russia will tolerate Missiles close to its borders in the same way the US would....but then the US motto is; 'do as we Say', not as we Do'....

One of the arguments of Western countries is that they have been fighting Russia for some 20 years because Russia has an autocratic regime, which is a legitimate argument, but then I don’t understand why the same Western countries maintain close alliances with autocratic regimes and dictatorships around the world, like Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar or Egypt, including helping them in brutal wars against neighboring countries, such as Yemen? If they are in close alliances with dictators, then it is not so much a fight of good against evil, but rather something like a Great Game between two imperialist blocs from the 19th century.

No one is critically asking why SHOULD Russia and India work together to contain China? What’s in it for them? This will only maintain the US-led “rule-based order” that mainly benefits the US, and the US will not hesitate to crush India or Russia if their economies did a little too well for America’s comfort, the same way it crushed Japan’s economy in the 1980s and the same way it’s trying to crush China now. On the other hand, China is quite happy to live in a multi-polar world and do business with everyone. Russia and India have more to gain by working WITH China than against it. The world would be a much more peaceful and prosperous place, including the US, if the US just minded its own business.

I'm sure the US military/industrial complex hopes it goes on for years, it's an excellent little earner and sorely needed since they lost their pay check in Afghanistan. Got to keep those highly profitable wars going.

The saddest thing is that all these political games are leading Ukraine down the path to destruction, as mr.Mearsheimer said.

Ukraine was never in control of those nuclear weapons, they were always controlled from Moscow.

It's good to see that chanels like CRUX hosting Professor John Mearsheimer and giving more people a chance to hear and learn about Russia's history and how we all got to this point from someone who is an expert on the topic of Russia... and it's not what you may think.

Those who have made a fortune from this war should know when to stop before it is too late. When the conflict escalated into a nuclear war, that fortune will become nuclear ash

Talking about India, I find it fascinating how, since they're keeping right away from the Ukraine issue, Biden is suddenly finding human rights issues there. So transparent that it's almost funny if it wasn't so sad - seeing what's possibly coming in India (if they don't kow tow) and mindful of what happened recently in Pakistan.

As many other have commented below, the other big winner in this process apart from China has been the military industrial complex, it certainly is very plausible to believe that this was all intended from the start since many other prominent intellectuals have been warning about it for years. Look at the situation over the past few years, NATO was losing its relevance, Russia was growing richer and closer to Europe thanks to providing it with cheap energy. The US was losing its political influence and distribution channel for arms. As John says, the US has been poking he bear for a long time, and it seemed like a very foolish thing to do unless of course your an arms dealer, for them it made perfect sense. Today the aid package of 40 Billion flew through congress, 7 Billion more than what the president requested, all Democrats voted in favor, only 7 Republicans opposed it. When it's difficult to make sense of things, the best thing to do is "follow the money", it's like Occam's razor.

Excellent analysis, as always. However, I do not agree with the rhetoric about China. US and NATO should not be in the business of containing anyone. Instead, they should concentrate on fixing their own problems and be able to compete economically. All the resources wasted on plotting and conflicts can be diverted to help the respective people. But greed, not common sense and peace, is running politics. That will only lead to more wars to benefit greedy minority at the expense of a great majority, worldwide.

And that brings me to my sainted Mothers comment to me in 1965, " No one in the world needs to believe that Russia or China are the ones to be afraid of as someday the entire world will unite to fight the US . "

Western media intentionally ignores the history behind this war since 2008. This is nothing new. And the US foreign policy won't change, and neither will Russia. Countries caught between the geopolitics will continue to suffer :/
