Sorry you have had issues with your machine. For what they cost they shouldn't have any issues like what you've gone through. I have a 2019 Gravely ZT HD 52 with the Kawasaki motor and it's been a fantastic machine. Just hit 94.4 hours two days ago. The local Gravely/Ariens dealer here is exceptional and do all the setups and deliveries themselves. Hope your Gravely has no more issues. Thanks for your videos.

Man, exact same issue. My spring broke too, but it made it to 15 hours. No undue stress on mower....just tooling along and I threw the belt, only to find the same spring in two pieces. It had nice fresh black paint on it, but the interior of the spring core was just rust, and failed. To the dealer's credit, they gave me a new spring, no questions asked, but not the hassle I'd hoped for with a brand new $5500 mower.

I have the same ear model as yours and we’ve got a little over 80 hours on it no problems regular maintenance kept up with all that and no breakdown issues whatsoever. It’s a great machine.

Thank you for the info. I’m new @ this and was thinking of buy a package deal that comes from SL. I was undecided weather this one or a Dixie. Glad I didn’t close the deal. With all these bad reviews now I know why they are selling it cheaper. Thank you again

We have a 2017 ZT60 HD with 178 hours and have not had any problems. I take care of it and keep it inside when not mowing. I really believe I would buy another Gravely.

I have a 2013 in a 52 inch and I have had 100% zero problems of any type. I cut my yard and other yards over the years and is the most maintenance free mower I have ever had other than change the air filter once a year and change oil twice a year. Sorry you are having issues, it can be aggravating, but mine is built like a tank and cuts great!

I feel your pain, I bought two Pro stance mowers in 2015 and the 48" mower broke on the first day I used it. Then it broke 12 other times in under 100 hours. I lost so many hours and jobs cause of the machine and gravely refused to take it back. They have a no buy back policy. Dealership was elated to fix it over and over cause they got paid while I was left holding my Peter. Now I'm trying to sell it at the dealership on consignment and no one wants to buy it. I'm stuck using the 36" pro stance and while it's a solid machine it takes me forever to mow some of my larger yards. I spoke to gravely numerous times, emailed and talked to the engineers in Wisconsin and they said that is what the warranty is for. Well, what about the weeks it spent in the shop while I was without a machine. They didn't give a shit, so think twice before you buy a Gravely mower. They honor their warranty but they don't give you anything for lost time, wages or grief. And lemon laws don't apply to lawnmowers, so make those pricks fix your mower the second anything goes wrong. And I'm not exaggerating about the amount of repairs it had. I kept all the work orders and the total warranty labor was in the thousands. So much for the "American workhorse".

Well...those of us who have worked QA in the automotive industry (or any field that had to meet an ISO certified variant) will tell you, you have to lean on those suppliers.
They need to supply you with sampling and testing data in advance, and you need to have at least an ANSI compliant sampling plan for ("Receiving Inspection") incoming material\components that is consistent and documented.
That is Quality in the 21st century.
You are supposed to be passionate about the customer and expected to post ppm failure rates statistically predictable and tracked constantly.
A failure like this should cause a major Corrective Action within the company; and a back filed CorAct against the supplier (I rather doubt that Gravely\Ariens is in the spring manufacturing business).
Unit is down, WHY? Spring failure
Sprint failed, WHY? Supplier quality
Supplier Quality failed, WHY? Testing? Inspection? Measuring and Test Equipment failure? Training short-fall on the part of an employee? Bargain skull duggery on the part of the supplier (a different lot from a different Pacific Rim sweat shop each month?).

Took my 2017 Gravely ZT60HD back to the dealer today for warranty work...same issue, broken tensioner spring, exact same place. Approximately 10.6 hours when it broke. I'll be down without it for several days as the dealer did not have the part on hand. Hopefully not too many more issues before the warranty is up (I've had the mower for almost 3 months). Will probably be looking at a Scag or Hustler for my next mower if this becomes a common occurrence.

This is all stuff your dealer should have adjusted in the first place. And there's a service update for those tensioner springs. I haven't had any come back since.

I’ve got the gravely 52 inch and constantly have had problems with the smart choke.. Dealer said it was because I didn’t know how to use the choke..
It’s killed 3 batteries in as many years..
New battery even seems weak..
Other than that, it’s been a good mower

myy zthd frame holding the hydraulic motor snapped at 400 hours. they trued not to warranty it, but they ended up fixing it. ive lost some faith in the brand after all this. it broke in april and I am supposed to get it back Monday almost an entire mowing season later. so good luck they are excellent when operating right, but issues are arising it seems

I bought a HD ZT about 4 yrs ago.
It has 152 hrs on it. Fuel gauge puked at 100. Waiting to take delivery of the three deck spindle bearing assemblies as all the bearing are smoked. 380.00 later.
Got them on Amazon as the dealer wanted 172.00 each plus tax! No thanks...other than that it's a great machine! Haha

I work with these machines every day and other manufacturers as well. They all have their issues. IT'S MACHINERY IT CAN AND WILL BREAK. But other than being a headache the warranty usually takes care of it and is actually better than most "if you have a good dealer to back you up" I am partial to Gravely and Ariens and am a huge fan boy but none of the issues you or most of the people in the comments have had are specific to the brand. Again had it been one of mine it would've gotten a new engine not a rigged choke handle the tracking and parking brake issues would've been caught during the make ready process and after all that I would've been coming to your location to rectify the spring problem. I hate that some of these people have been let down by their dealers but that's just it.

I have a 6 year old Gravely ZT and the last two summers cost me$1000 in repairs. Done, going for a bad boy. The final straw was when I had to spend $435 for a factory defect.
