So the whole point of a down spout is to get the water away from the foundation not to help it put by burying it a foot down....

Don’t use T connections. Easy for leaf clogging. Use a Y pipe connection in the direction of the water flow. I discovered this issue when digging up a drain pipe that was clogged with a T.

As a general contractor for 35 years, the 2 holes point down equally so it forms a 1/4” channel for runoff. It also lets the water from the trench into the drain pipe to be carried off, this guy was placing the holes randomly. Ideally their should be two pipes in the trench, one to carry the downspout water and another to drain the trench.

The pipe that has holes in it is used to COLLECT water and move it way. If you want to move water from a source, you need to use a solid pipe and drain it to a sewer line or a weeping bed.

How not to build. He plans to fill up the pipes with water and then overflow them into the soil. Never d this. They need to drain to daylight and not into the soil.

So much wrong. All drain holes face down. But more important down spouts are always tight lined (no holes) if you want to collect water from the ground you need to dig a proper ditch 24” deep 8” wide then line it with filter fabric and put 4” of drain rock down then the perforated pipe holes down then 8” drain rock on top and cover with filter fabric. Slope pipe 1/4” per foot.
The idea is you are just creating an empty space for the water to gather and flow. With the holes facing up the water you want to collect has to rise up4” then fall down. You reduce your water by having it rise up into the pipe and flow away.

The confidence of YouTubers who have no idea what they’re doing is always funny to me.

my man called the pipe a hose.. then said he’s not gluing it in case he wants to take it back apart, like wtf?

Lol, I'm a retired landscaper. As you've been told, holes go down. Lots of diy'ers screw this up.

I laughed really hard when he said “properly drained system” 😂

If you elect not to glue your storm pipe, I recommend that you install one self tapping screw at each connection, helping to prevent disconnection from overtime settlement. I believe this to be the best option for residential storm drains. I do speak from experience, as I am a 40 year pipe fitter. I'm one of many that makes sure that your shit runs down hill.

Whoever sold you the perforated pipe is a master salesman.

I’ve never tried using soil to seal a pipe before, great advise.

He’s installing it with plans already to “remove and replace” ‘cause he knows it’s wrong. One of those “looks good from my house” jobs

It should be taped joints to prevent roots and drain holes should face down

I always put my drainage behind the wall not under it creates a void

You can’t put all of the water from gutters behind a retaining wall and disperse it through perforated pipe.
You need perforated pipe behind the wall to collect ground water and get it moving from behind the wall so it doesn’t create back pressure.
But I only saw a couple of stones really. Not a retaining wall.
