For a wall this small as long as you dont plan on building something on it you dont need a huge base and drainage

Wow you have the easiest dirt to dig through. Our dirt here wouldn't let you dig one inch, let alone six. You'd need an excavator for that.

Kind of funny... but I did one twice as high as this. I did nothing but lay a little gravel and then stack the bricks using liquid nails. That was probably 6 years ago and looks perfect today. I didn't do anything with drainage etc. I live in the northwest where it never stops raining.
Took me about an hour or two total to do.

Why did you skip the parts about the drainage? How to proper run the hoses and why?

would have added a step 0 by setting up appointment for your local utility to confirm any utility lines...

Absolutely wrong fabric that's woven fabric notice the lines meant for plant spacing this does not drain and will trap water, do not use crushed minus because it holds water 3/4" clean stone is what you use for open graded base, no drain tube! Does nothing waste of money, (add wall light.. there cheap and add a lot of value.) run a level string line the wall is not level within 6' otherwise looks good

lol that drain will run totally dry. You put it on top of crushed rock. The drain at the top of the wall will not flow until the cavity behind the wall is full. DO NOT DO IT THIS WAY. QUICKEST WAY TK A BLOWOUT IF IT WAS FALLER

Does it need to have the drainage pipe? Can it just be the fabric roadbase and the retaining wall ?

I just put 1/2” of bedding sand between the dirt and the first row of blocks.

I know it’s been a while, but I’m doing my backyard and need a small retaining wall built. Yours is my inspiration/I plan on mimicking it! I found the brick and cap at Lowe’s. Are you able to provide a video/pictures of how it looks from afar as well?
