In Oz, We mostly all use black flexible black stuff, slotted, in a sock, buried ⅔ down in a gravel drain that has larger rock on the bottom, and half size rock above. This is all fully encapsulated in geofabric, double foldover at the seam, and seam pinned with no 8 thick galvanised wire before backfilling further with dirt or gravel as desired✅️ I'm a girl about to build my own designed house, cyclone rated, and even I know how to french drain correctly 😬 i can see why you would use cheap skinny, unstablised, rigid pipe if you had no ground movement, but i live on sandy clay, and the movement between wet and dry season would crack those thin pipes within a few years, pvc pipe perishes more easily than the black stabilised ag-pipe. This is Good for a quick fix, not long-term, and not in my soil type.

What? You say don’t use these rigid drainage pipe while showing a picture or a flexible land drainage pipe. This clip is worse than useless, it explains nothing and seems 100% wrong.

You need a perforated land drainage pipe flexible or rigid at base of retaining wall bedded in gravel.
