How I Retired Earning Only $10,000 Per Year in Dividends

I want to talk about FIRE today. FIRE stands for: financial independence, retire early.

It’s all about getting enough passive income to cover the bills so that you can do what you want, when you want. This is living life on your terms.

But what’s the bare minimum you need to achieve FIRE? What’s the fastest possible timeline to FIRE? I think I’m in a pretty good position to discuss this.

After all, I went from below broke at age 27 to financially free at 33. I started out in debt and only averaged about $50,000/year at my day job. Yet I still got to the finish line in only six years.

And I certainly didn’t have seven figures when I quit my job and started living off of passive income.

In fact, based on my experience, now seven years into FIRE, I think it’s easier than a lot of people make it out to be.

Today, I want to tell you how it’s possible to achieve FIRE with only $10,000/year in dividend income.

Get the full details in the video.

The reason most people can't retire early or retire at all is because they don't want to reduce their standard of living or make the sacrifices necessary to lower their costs of living. Like you, I too have retired to Thailand and although our standard of living is slightly lower that it was in the states we are very happy with our current situation. We sold or gave away everything we owned and moved to my wife's home village, we are building a new house for 1/4 of what it would cost in the US. After that is done we anticipate being able to live comfortably on $1200 to $1500 per month. Example, our garbage service once a week is 250 baht a year! That's not even $1 dollar for a year of garbage service. Water is less than $10/mo. Electricity is about $20/mo. We live in a small village so our food costs are a little elevated simply because we buy some American type foods which will probably change over time. It can be done folks, watch all of Jason's videos and learn from the master.

I really appreciate your no nonsense "education", not financial advise. LOL Did not know you had moved to Thailand. I'm looking at it or Philippines.

I do spend about 10k a year, but I own my house outright, so that's a huge advantage. I'll need to check Thailand out.

Dang I had been watching Jason’s videos for a while and hadn’t realized he lived in Thailand! I mean I guess 10k can work over there but you have to give up a lot things to make it work. Personally my goal is to FIRE in the US.

Perk of being a mexican: Earning in dollars makes you super rich.
Con of being mexican: You earn in pesos until you figure out how to make money online, but then Mexican IRS takes about half of it.

Hell I'm only getting about $1800 annually in dividends rn (although I did just start investing 2 years ago). Wish I was getting 10 racks from my portfolio every year.

I am 48 years old with very little set aside for retirement at this point. I have always been curious about the stock market and have witnessed some people who played the game right and retired early because they used the stock market. When I ask them, most said that they invested very little to start with, but their portfolio grew. I do have a significant amount of capital that is required to start up but I have no idea what strategies and direction I need to approach to help me make decent returns

Gives me so much hope. I was considering Portugal but Thailand might be a much faster way to start enjoying life and for my daughter to experience a whole new culture!! How is the school system there?

Missyou-.

Congrats Jason on achieving your dream by thinking outside the box. I wouldn't have thought it was possible to live on $10, 000/year, but you've done it.

Can you seriously get that nice of an apartment over there for only $450 a month? If so that's crazy. Is it in a decent area? Do you have to worry about getting shot every time you leave your house or mugged? That just boggles my mind to see a place that nice for that cheap

I think $25, 000 a year is a lot more reasonable to live off of on the lower end.

Love this video. I bought a 3 bedroom house in the Philippines. It will be paid off by the first of 2023. The. I plan to get crazy on investing in dividends. Right now I'm taking baby steps while paying off my house.

Jason been watching all your videos. Great stuff. I retired over a year ago at 57. I have a pension from doing 30 years with a state government. Also, a Roth IRA and differed compensation account, great investments. In addition, I set aside a good amount of cash over the last eight years of my job because of promotions. I used this cash to start dividend growth investing about a year ago. All I have to say is wow!!! Currently I am reinvesting the dividends, but this is an excellent supplement to my pension and other retirement accounts. Glad I ran across this approach to investing. Looking at Jomtien Beach in Thailand. Your videos are one of the sources I ran across that started me down the road of dividend growth investing. Thanks so much for the information.
