I like how there's two types of closures for this. A heartfelt message that basically boils down to "see you on the other side!", And a completely abrupt slap of static across the face.

Absolutely incredible that people recorded these moments in retrospect. What could have easily become lost media has been preserved for viewers like me to watch at 2AM on a Sunday morning just because the YouTube algorithm suggested it to me!

the effort that was taken at WDEF to make a heartfelt, historic sign off - only to cut to "I KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE BEYOTCH!" _then_ cut the feed, is the most hysterical thing ever

*"The following is a paid presentation. The views expressed on this program are not necessarily the views of the management or ownership of this station" appears for a split second and turns into static*

6:50 imagine watching the one on left after the heartwarming sign-off, you get up out of your lazy chair, both teary eyed and weary as the hour grows late. You turn toward the bedroom to drift off to sleep then all of a sudden… ”l know where you live, biyeeeoootch!”…. hard cut to static.

6:53 The poor people watching Channel 12 and 7 going down with the final words being "I know where you live BIYATTTCH!"

It was crazy how the signal on some of these just instantly stopped, especially the one where it shut off as the guy clicked the button. that was a pretty cool way to do it

"IF YOU HAVE A DIGITAL TV OR A CONVERTER BOX PLEASE BEGIN USE OF THESE RECIEVERS NOW" (immediately cuts to static)

7:04 that’s the most 2009 thing I’ve ever seen haha, it’s so wholesome seeing them get so excited over getting a photo with the last analog transmission

At 4:07, absolutely genius to shut it off in front of everyone’s eyes, and the effect taking place immediately

"I know where you live, beyotch! [blows raspberries]" TV cuts to static.
I don't know if I should laugh or be terrified.

I'm only 18 so I obviously never got to experience any of this, but at my young age, I have a strong fascination for old "obsolete" technology.
After watching this video, I feel like I've lost something near and dear to me, but at the same time I'm happy that I could experience that thing while it was still there. Things can be repeated, but this will never be!
Your channel very much interests me, you have earned a sub!

i LOVE seeing these people react to it. i think its cuz im autistic. but i love watching people be excited or have deep feelings for the transition. the guys at 8:00 getting all hyped up.

I miss analog TV. The move to digital was necessary, but there was something kinda awesome about just being able to pick up TV signals from anywhere for free with just some simple hardware.

The first one felt like a transition into fake static to make the real static seem less sudden. I was wondering if any other channel did that.

A little sad how unceremonious some of them were, but those that did commemorate the occasion were very sweet.
The kids taking pictures with the TV and cheering when the signal went out cracked me up though!

For those wondering why some 2000s footage looks like it's from the 80s/90s, it's because the recording was likely taken from an analog playback, whether live or on tape delay/replay. This is most prominent with sports footage, although it exists in some sitcoms

A lot of people find this video sad, but honestly this made my day.
I was born in the early 90s, it's been such an incredible experience growing up in a 1st world country with technology advancing around me so rapidly.
Seeing broadcasted TV, VHS tapes, and CDs evolving into most media being stored/accessed online or on SSDs.
Using dial up internet with telephone wires as a child and now being able to access it instantly anywhere with a pocket-sized touchscreen computer (something made possible by the shutdown of analog TV broadcasts making room for the signals).

Sure some things have gotten worse, but some things have gotten better as well. When I was born we wouldn't have been able to watch this historical moment at the touch of a button, with the ability to talk about it with all of you guys from around the world.
The nostalgia from this video made me teary eyed, a combination of missing my childhood and thinking about all the positive effects of how shockingly advanced humanity is becoming.

You shouldn't be sad and yearn for the obsolete past, you should be excited and look forward to the amazing things we're going to be able to do in the future.
