There are several strategies for getting dividend income in retirement. You could also invest that same $7k per year in a growth ETF, sell it all near retirement age and invest the balance in SCHD. Your income would likely be significantly higher.

Love it & VOO will do better in a market correction. Personally i like SCHD for dividends, SPMO the large cap momentum ETF, and XMMO the mid cap momentum ETF ( i would stay away from small cap right now though )
