Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show I'm your host Paul and today we're bringing you a breakdown fit for a King with our Crown Season 5 Ending Explained.

It's back baby and though the season is getting lower reviews than normal I thought it was a great trip down memory lane.

The season releases in the wake of the Queens Death with King Charles now on the throne. This is actually a motif that pretty much becomes the backbone of the season and in it we watch whether people discuss if Elizabeth is still fit to rule whilst Charles and Diana fracture even further.

It's been confirmed for a while now that her death will take place in Season 6 with that centering around the final few weeks of her life and the aftermath of it. This has been confirmed to be the final season with the shows creator saying that he initially only wanted to do five. Peter Morgan has since said though that it was too much to cover and thus Netflix give the go ahead for a sixth one to close it out.

If you're like me, 34 and a Youtuber then you probably remember where you were when you learned that Diana died. I went to my mate James Thompsons house and we were told by his mum and it's something that's stuck with me since it happened.

This series of course knows where it's going but what it does is that it fleshes out the relationship between Charles and Diana including the infamous Martin Bashir interview. Whereas Diana is thought of as being a saint and I have to confess I've always been on her side, the Crown actually tries to show things from both sides.

I agree about Dominic as Charles. With Josh O’Connor I felt like he really embodied him, his mannerisms and his walk and way of speaking. But with Dominic I just saw Dominic, biting his lips like usual not even sounding like him either. Elizabeth nailed it though! When she was recording the tapes for the book I felt I was watching the documentary Diana In Her Own Words

My favorite scenes here were the Sidney Johnson's relationship/dynamic with Mohamed Al Fayed and The former Kind Edward. Most of the reviewers I saw didn't talk about it or mentioned it which was sad. I also liked the scene where the senior Al Fayed kept on spending money just to fit in the British royal circles, and he's so determined to be an insider. Diana's scenes were also spectacular, Elizabeth Debicki was spot on.

Really admired the fact they acknowledged Diana's partner in later life. There is so little mentioned of him and his past. Real treat.

The portrayal of Diana was haunting. I was working at the BBC (in the US) at the time Diana died. I had to log footage used by Infotainment shows, so I saw endless clips of Diana in that blazer. Those scenes in the episode took me back to watching random moments from the interview while trying to reconcile she was actually gone.

Season 5 is just a song to elevate Charles to a more acceptable figure. Too biased to change our perception of Charles.

Your comments matched mine exactly! Dominic West was not a good embodinent of Charles, neither was Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth. But in all fairness, there wasnt as much material to make her shine. And following Claire Foy and Olivia Coleman was REALLY tough. But Elizabeth Debicki was so similar to Diana that it was eerie watching her. She really nailed it.Hope she gets the golden globe. The guy who played mohammed Al Fayed ws pretty good, too, as was Olivia Williams as Camilla.

Binge watched it yesterday, and I found it pretty good. It ends only 2 months before her and Dodi's death, I'm glad there was an episode covering the rise of El Fayad and his relationship with his son it explains a lot. Also the forged documents by Bashir to dupe Diana into trusting him (sneaky little fecker) I did wonder what all the fuss was about the BBC having to apologise to her family a while back. All in all a good series, nothing really that isn't in the public domain to damage the royal family so I don't know why a swathe of society were clutching their pearls over it lol

Watching the new season of the Crown has left me underwhelmed so far. Not too crazy about Imelda Staunton as QE 2, and the new Princesse Margaret is a letdown, after Helena Bonham Carter and Vanessa Kirby.

I was wondering if they were going have everyone stand on apple carts to offset Debicki's towering height but looks like they just ran with it.

Just better than ever. Obviously knowing history is the major spoiler, every moment still got me. Like having a goldfish's memory

I really enjoyed this season. I wasn't completely sold on Domenic as Charles at first, but he grew on me. The casting for Diana, the Queen, and Camilla were just perfect. I also loved learning more about a time I actually remember hearing about the royal family in the news (I was 16 when Diana died, and I remember hearing my mom and sister talking about the whole drama about Charles and Diana in the years before. I still remember how gutted I was when I learned about the crash.) All in all I very much enjoyed this season.

I have never understood how the Church of England/monarchy was so against divorce and re-marry when it was LITERALLY created by Henry VIII to divorce Catherine and marry Anne! What a joke.

I’m on episode 9. I think this season felt a bit off because it’s starting to be contemporary to us. I also remember where I was when Diana died (at Disney World).

It’s hard for me to enjoy a show I saw play out on TV in real time (the Versace murder from Ryan Murphy was another one - I lived in Miami, so that was on tv 24/7).

I also feel the season has no more historical significances the more modern we get to. By the time we get to the 90’s, there is almost no power left in the monarchy where there was a small perception before in the 50’s. It felt that other than the marriage issues of everyone in the royal family, the writers had to find other stuff (like Sydney Johnson - and entire episode dedicated to him and the Al Fayeds!) and the Romanoff’s issue.

The casting and makeup was also off. Charles is totally miscast. So was Philip. Anne’s wig was so bad, I wanted to rip it off her. We don’t need known celebrities for the sake of getting star power when we could have gotten actors like the person playing Diana who is basically her twin. THAT was amazing casting.

I thought all the actors were brilliant. Of course take the plot lines with a gran of salt. I didn’t expect to get stories about the Fayeds or Romanovs. But they were eye opening.

Elizabeth looks and acts like Diana on screen, honestly if you didn’t watch or known about the Crown you could genuinely mistake her at times

I appreciate that Prince Charles was represented more thoughtfully. I must add that when Queen Elizabeth II became queen, she commited herself to all responsibilities, for life. Not once did I ever think she would step down. She fulfilled her commitment. History books will speak well of her.

I honestly want to thank you for making my wish come true - I had told myself, ugh if only Heavy Spoilers wrote a review for the new season of the Crown.

I can’t believe S5 made me actually be very sympathetic towards (King) Charles. He was the sole voice of reason when it came to the monarchy. It’s like the ship is sinking and he’s the only one on it who mentions it.
