Rain-X Windshield Repair Kit - Trying To Repair Large Crack

I have a 9 inch crack in my windshield and try to fix it with the Rain X windshield repair kit.

You have to push up from the inside of the windshield so the resin enters better into the crack, many times need a 2nd person to help you. I used it and it worked great. I used coconut oil on the 4 suction cups to be able to slide it along the crack, that helped.

You can apply a bit of pressure from the inside as you apply the resin, that makes it easier for it to penetrate. Also, you can just use the applicator, put some cooking oil or any other lubricant to allow the suction cups to slide and move it along the crack as you apply the product, that should do it for you.

I used the tool with some Vaseline so to slide the tool along over the crack to inject with the pressure into the crack. Seem to work a lot better than just applying the resin.

Reading the other comments, I made sure to apply the resin in a cool garage. The crack I am trying to repair is about 17 inches long. The windshield was cracked by a small rock and there is no "bullet hole". I did have someone pushing from the inside and my result was the same. I still have the crack. I did follow the directions specifically for cracks on the instructions. The resin would never really enter the crack that I could tell, thus the failure. Sa la vie.

You were supposed to move the reason applicator down the crack to fill it up by pressure, not pour drops of resin on top of the crack because then it won’t go inside the crack

When u put curing strips u should applied force! U want resin to get inside of crack. Also pushing on windscreen from inside helps to get resin in

Yeah it's supposed to stop the crack from spreading but I'm assuming that if you use a buffer and some wax or polish that it might polish the resin to a smooth and shiny finish to look more like the glass, because glass is very tough not like paint so you should be able to buff it to a smooth finish without risking any damage to the windshield even with a buffing pad and a drill but I'm not sure if the plastic coating on the windshield would be an issue .

When your filling the long cracks you need someone in the inside poushing a bit on the windsheld to open the crack as you go so the resin will fill the crack better👍

Hi, the results of my application of rainx is similar as yours. Didn’t seem to enter the glass. Is there a way to remove all the resin and properly reapply the resin again?

The directions don't say to use the suction cups for cracks

It look like it failed. The best thing to do is to drill a hole at the edge of the crack leg and the. Apply the resin from it.

I'm sorry this didn't work well for you. I'm reading the instructions and it does not seem like you followed them very closely. 1. Don't do the repair in direct sunlight, 2. Press from the inside to open the crack to let the resin enter, 3. dispense the resin slowly, 4. Observe to make sure the dark spots are disappearing and reapply as necessary.

It’s not supposed to have air bubbles in it & someone is supposed to be inside pushing on the other end .

Rain x should stick it the water repellent. I bought that orange wind sheild wiper fluid seem to work good. But then it rain and I could hardly see out the windshield.
