People claim cats are better than dogs (or dogs are better than cats) as if it is a competition between two football teams. Unfortunately, this attitude is really prevalent as is the idea that you are a cat person or a dog person or that your choice of imprisoned animal is a facet of your character. It's tribal, partisan and childish.

I love cats. They are my favorite. I think you are right about them thinking your the pet. My cat use to slap me when I was doing something he didn’t like lol. He literally punished me when he wanted too. He’s gotten better with that tho lol.

Fun fact: cats are 1. Genetically closer to humans 2. Similar to humans because they are selfish and love control
Also cats MUST be outdoor or they get depressed and sad.

I think both, because cats can be good for introverts, not saying introverts can’t have dogs, just saying. And dogs can be good for active and out going people (again anyone can have either jut my opinion)

A dog can protect you if you go for a walk in the forest and run into a bear or a mountain lion. I doubt a cat can do the same
