Why You Should Play CK2

Crusader Kings 3 is coming up on its 3rd anniversary and it made me think about is predecessor and the first Paradox Interactive game I played Crusader Kings 2. CK2 is currently free to play and I think still has some better mechanics and in certain areas better flavor than CK3. Therefore I recommend you all to play it and detail why in this video!

Until CKIII does something about religion and government types, I really feel like CKII is the better game to play if you are more into strategy gaming as opposed to CKIII's more roleplaying simulation focus, especially when you take mods into account. I'm still amazed by how mods like "When the World Stopped Making Sense" and "Geheimnisnacht" were able to take what Paradox provided and really make so many new religions, cultures, and government types feel unique and developed.

This isn't a knock against CKIII, it's a good game in its own right, and I'm sure it'll eventually match CKII. However, the dev team's current sim focus really makes it feel like it may be years before we get major reworks to religion and governments.

The one thing I would say CK3 does better than CK2 is how dynamic cultures are. I would love CK2 even more if we had CK3’s culture mechanics.

Ck2 was my introduction not only to Paradox games, but grand strategy genre in General. After i really got into it, it became one of my favourite games ever made, hope ck3 will become at least the same with the Future updates and reworks

personally, i miss the monk and mystic flavor at CK3, i love to role play as secret religion leader to revive hellenic faith.

This is my first game on pc and so far tye most played in pc with 300 hours. At first i thought "damn, ive been waiting to play this kind of game my whole life and it may be a confusing trash" but after my third playthrogh with my friend. Where i was really down because i died in iberia as portugal. But since my friend was doing great in saboya i picked milan, and that game made me love the game, after some time we bougth the subscription and damn this is a great game

it makes sense that ck3 didn't have plagues in it, considering it was released during 2020 and people were overly sensitive to that subject, even though it is a part of history...

It's like both CK3 and Victoria 3 feel like early access, compared to what's come before them.

It will be never the same, because the guys that used to love CK2 and made it such a nice game are not there anymore. The original fans are not cared about anymore.
Doesn't it say enough that there are so many videos comparing CK2 vs CK3?

As someone who played a fair bit of CK 2 with all DLCs and only a little bit of CK 3 with all DLCs, I find CK 2 to be more immersive. Ck III just feels too much like a fantasy a child would have about medieval courts with all their splendour and cartoonish villainry. You can just feel that the game isn't ment to be taken serious - which does not mean that it is bad or that it is "below" me to play it. It's just that CK 2 has all these small things that arn't even historicaly accurate but make the world look like an unexplored land where anything, from the most sacred over the most profane down to the purely evil can happen. There is this overarching sense of fate and powerlessness in CK 2. It might sound absurd but it is exactly that which makes that game so great and in a way reflects history - not in the sense that it gets the facts right but the way it works. Ck 3 just lacks so many important aspects of the medieval world and mentality. Society, saints, narrative-driven crusades etc. In Ck 2, all the things that can happen and that you can do feel like they actualy mean something rather than just being options that look neat on a list of things to acomplish before you die (which is basically the idea behind Tours & Tournaments: Use a rulers life to get as much lavish expierence out of it as possible).

I have had CK2 for years and all the dlc I have about 200 hours in the game which really isn’t much. All I can say is I still have no idea how the game works things just happen and you roll with it and then your sons fuck everything up.

"Paradox is great" Yeaahh, no. They match EA in how badly they treat their costumers. What do i mean? Instead of updating their games to add small features, they make you pay a couple bucks for them. Anyone who says that its because they have to earn money somehow is stupid, no one else does this and they still earn money???

Man if they (for some reason) release a final dlc for ck2 adding all of Asia, noone would play ck3 hahahha
