You are a lifesaver, everywhere I looked the answer was either "durr just reformat it dummy, you should back up everything anyway" (yeah because I want to reinstall a terabyte of games to save 25GB of space) or "oh yeah just plug in a Linux USB stick to get around windows permissions" or "oh just open up the command prompt and type out paragraphs of commands you don't understand".

Absolutely spot on. Exactly what I needed. Had an old PC with Windows on a 2TB HDD, built a new one, put a new copy on my SSD. Now I wanted to not have to worry about the old copy on my HDD so I can still use it and free up that space. Thankful. Appreciate you.

Pros:

No cons, fortunately! Can't think of any, this deleted Windows without touching personal files!
Salvaged an 256gb SSD from a dead laptop I upgraded it's HDD from. Laptop died and built a PC about a year ago. Now I'll have space for RDR2 to play again 😅

Excellent approach. You can even create a Windows.old folder and drop Program Files and other files you cannot delete there and run the same process. Quite a workaround! Thanks for it this.

what if i will only use 1 hdd but will have 2 partitions, windows 10 on partition 1 (Disk C:/) and windows 11 on partition 2 (Disk D:/) will it work?
