How to get a Spec Miata race license with SCCA or NASA

What is the difference from a Track Day and a Race. How can I get a race license with SCCA or NASA.

Can you tell me if you have covered anything like this:

I have been reading about suspension on various places (miata.net posts, Fred Puhn's book, etc). I'm trying to wrap my head around how the "stiffness" at each end of the car contributes to over/understeer.

The way I understand it right now is that whichever end is "stiffer" compared to the other will lose grip/slide first.

Is that a dumb way to understand it, and is it completely wrong?

I'm mainly trying to wrap my head around what I can tweak with my adjustable sways / shocks - and how I can expect those tweaks to change the car's behavior. I have the sways installed, and I'm doing the shocks this weekend.

Great info. It does seem like a lot of bureaucracy. In my previous form of local racing (wingless open wheel dirt oval), if your car and gear passed inspection, you went straight to the deep end of the pool. 😂
