Thank you so much. There are so many breakers that aren’t labeled properly at my house, and it’s a pain when I’m trying to change out light switches. I appreciate this tutorial

Man, thanks so much! I bought one of these and after watching several videos on its operation, yours was the first (and only) that talked about testing a light switch—which is what I was looking for 👍🏼

Will this work for 277? I know that is only rated for 120. So technically it would work the same?

what do you do when you don't have access to a ground, like in older wired houses? i have a switch that only has a hot lead.

What if you don’t have alligator clamps?

If the light switch is in a plastic jbox then we connect black clip to the neutral right?

We recently used the tool and everything worked out great except when we tried to use the wires. the hot wire screw was so thin that there was no way the clip was going to grab hold of that thin screw.

What if the light isn’t getting power? Does this still work?

I’m confused. It looks like the black clip should be connected to hot and red should be connected to neutral or ground if you follow the wires on the alligator attachment? Cant find any documentation online that confirms this… please help!

Well, technically, this methos did work... my particular switch blew up when I clipped the common, which tripped he breaker. So breaker found! And switch replaced! Not quite how I pictured it working but okay!

Isn't it just easier to turn all the electric off to the house? It would only be off for a couple minutes. Perhaps I don't understand the importance of needing to single out the exact breaker for this application.

If you have a helper, it's just as easy to flick each breaker until the light goes off. Basically, that's what you're doing for a 1 person scenario.
