I'm a retired chef/baker and we were taught to always weigh everything. It isn't hard and it doesn't have to be expensive. I got my first scale at Bed, Bath & Beyond. Not great but it lasted and I only changed because I didn't realize how hard it would be to clean. And yes I use the scale to bake.

Just posted a vid using weight after questioning Brambleberry regarding their unevenly filled bottles🤔 she DM’d me on Instagram to send her pics of the bottles on scale... but I made a video- WHAT A GREAT EXERCISE !!!
BIG DIFFERENCE using weight vs. Volume!!!
But I concur, if one should land on a recipe by volume and it works? Roll with it...
But by weight is soooo important. And the ONLY way for me!!! Luv your videos Bro

I got handed my grandmas recipe and yes it was cups, tablespoons of this and that and 1 can of lye. 😳 yep not following that but it’s what she used for laundry. I did run it through lye Calc to get measurements and played around with numbers to figure out weights of each needed.

Back in the day they were also using ashes and putting it through water and boiling the soap over a fire.

Out of curiosity how many recipes did you go through before you decided one was good enough to sell to other folks? I'm a perfectionist and maybe one day I will say I've finally got one good enough to think about selling.

Can you recommend the best brand of scales? Im in the UK. Apparently there's a European standard for soap sellers, but i dont know much about that. Im just starting off in cold process after doing melt & pour, and im looking for a decent digital scale that isn't too expensive but that are precise. Just not sure what to buy, there's too many!
