Short history documentary about the French conquest of Corsica in 1768-1769. In 1755 Corsica declared its independence from the Republic of Genoa. After failing to reconquer the island, the Genovese sell Corsica to France, who began in 1768 an expedition to conquer the island, against the Corsican forces led by Pasquale Paoli. The French were first defeated in October in the battle of Borgo, but a new French commander, Noël Jourda de Vaux, was appointed to lead the expedition, and decisively defeated the Corsican army in the Battle of Ponte Novu in May 1769, effectively bringing an end to Corsican resistance. After the Corsican defeat, France annexed the island, and the Corsican leader, Pasquale Paoli, fled to Great Britain.

WOW!! I always wondered why France owned a obviously Italian island ? I would have never thought Italians would sell another Italian land with Italians in it to another country... that's so shameful 🥺
