I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

Three of the first lures I remember having in my tackle box as a kid were a floating Rapala, a red & white Daredevil spoon, and Mepps inline spinners. Didn't need much of anything else. They worked 50 years ago, and still work now.

Mepps spinners are my favorite lure of all time. Classic lure sold worldwide for almost 100 years. Catches everything. Awesome episode! Great info!

my favorite growing up has always been panther martin. That’s because they would spin at slow speeds where other ones did not. I grew up going to the north Georgia mountains, and using those for trout all the time.👍

I’m a kid who spends a lot of time hanging out with “serious” bass anglers. It’s just never been talked about and has always been considered a “kids bait.” Well, this kid doesn’t want to seem like any more of a kid. Until, I couldn’t get bit on anything and for the first time ever threw one. BOOM, second cast a decent lil largemouth hits it, and gets two hooks in the side of his face (YUP they eat it GOOD). The inline spinner now holds a special place in my heart. Also, I didn’t hear you talk about the Strike king Bitsy Spinner, but that right there is a quality little bass spinner!

Thank you. You are the first YouTuber, pro angler I have EVER heard even mention inline spinners. Classic bait. Best trout-stream catcher too! And remember the Snagless Sally inline buzzbait?
For the record, my PB bass is on a jitterbug, and my PB pike is on a #5 Mepos Aglia. Then again, I'm old!

In-line spinners are amazing! Some of them you can’t change out the hook so I cut the treble hook eye take it off and put on a split ring. Now I can use a small offset and small plastic and make it weedless.

WOW!! I can't believe you let this one out of the bag. With so much click bait on YouTube it's hard to find the real deal. I've been doing using them on Bass forever. I was fishing once with them when a former BassMaster Classic winner and Angler of the year was filming a videos near me and asked what I was using since the bite was tuff. I told him a Mepps inline and he laughed. He said that that's a big secret on the tours and he couldn't use that on the video. So, if a classic winner, angler of the year and multiple blue trophies and MLF trophies is trying to keep it a secret it was cool you said it. Keep up the great job.

I hope that you schooled the ol boy at the tackle shop! After your initial video about the Mepps Bronze Slammer, I purchased twelve of them. Excellent bait, well made and they flat catch bass, especially river Smallmouth! Thanks for the video Matt

Caught my first bass on an in-line spinner. River bass go nuts for them in the northeast.

Hey Matt, I fish ponds and small lakes from the bank and I have an in-line spinner tied on all the time. I catch more with it than I do with a spinnerbait. I use no’s. 3, 4 and 5. It flat out catches fish and it is a lot of fun to throw.

As a bank fishermen this happened to me other day at my local pond. I lost worms, spinnerbaits, etc. I had a box a inline spinners. After changing to a all brass one. 3 crappie hit it and caught 2. Matt is right. They are way overlooked. I now carry them with me. Great video btw!

I've been throwing the bigger Blue Fox lately. I like depth control you have with an inline spinner.

Inline spinners are fish catching machines. One time, I was sitting on my kayak 20 yards from my buddy. Fishing was slow. That's when I tied on a #2 black fury. From the first cast, I started catching bass. Caught about 20 in about an hour. I call it the old forgotten lure.

Awesome video! I love them old mepps and rooster tails!! I've never seen the weedless one I'm very interested in trying that I live on a very weedy lake loaded with huge smallies and large mouth!!

Great job giving props to the Spinners! I use Mepps in a variety of sizes and always catch fish. I have some pics and info on some of my catches on the Mepps website. They catch fish all the time! I have lots of videos posted on my channel of me catching fish with them. I also posted a video on what I do to bring back the shine to the spinners I clean up.

I grew up fishing mepps spinners and the old style eppinger red and white and black and white daredevil spoons. It's about time someone brought up one of these old style lures. Caught a lot of fish on the old style spinners. You should make a video about the old Eppinger and little Cleo spoons as well. Caught my personal best largemouth (7+ pounder) when I was about 12 years old trolling on Cross Lake in upstate NY on a zebco spincast combo with a red and white daredevil spoon.

I started serious fishing with a mentor at 15 and he started me with the good old Mepps #2 Algia. We used to hook a ton of pan fish.

After your video of the newer bronze slammer by Mepps I bought some. Nice bait. I had my daughter fish Mepps inline spinners growing up and now I have her sons fishing them. A fishing tradition.
