For city/local trucks that makes perfect sense. For what I’m doing (heavy haul, oversized and remote areas of Canada 🇨🇦) they’ve got a long way to go still.

Weather this goes incredibly well or incredibly poorly this is still going to be an incredibly good source of information for everyone else

Honestly if given a choice i would still prefer to go with companies like frieghtliner or peterbilt because they have been making trucks for years and i have more faith in them but tesla has a clear edge with more experience in electric market, with more charging stations and more range.
Rohen I hope your investment is worth, i am glad you shared the story and experience! keep us updated and if you can make a comparison video of tesla semi truck vs others in the market.

I own a Tesla limo fleet here in the US. Switching to Tesla has been the best business decision I've ever made. The company definitely sucks when it comes to communication, which is probably my #1 complaint, but I would absolutely buy again if given an opportunity to do it all over.

Looking at getting into trucking in the future, and love all the information in your videos. As soon as long haul electric trucks become a reality, I'll be one of the first in line.

Tesla doesn’t need to keep the public informed, we create all the hype for them. That’s why they have never spent a penny on advertisements, yet are one of America’s biggest vehicle manufacturer

35 to 45 minutes charging is going to have trucks backed up from the truck stops to the free way. And let's not think about the trucks trying to start off with a full charge the next morning. For over the road trucks

You're capped out @80k total weight right? I wonder how heavy this Tesla semi truck is and how much product is going to be left off of the trailer because of weight violations?

Range can be limited but manageable. The main problem will be the battery longevity. With high mileage and high charging frequency in commercial trucking, current battery will end up needing replacement sooner than the gas savings can accumulate. In addition, replacement battery will simply be remanufactured battery (and not new).

I would definitely buy one. Total cost of ownership is king. One estimate I've heard is that you could pay off the truck in two years with fuel savings alone. Then consider the truck has no temperamental emissions equipment, no oil changes and uses regenerative braking. The only higher cost I can think of might be in tires because the higher acceleration forces would chew them up quicker. I would also bet that companies that have Teslas will have no trouble keeping drivers assigned to this truck.

Elon and his top battery engineer say that supercharging daily will significantly impact battery longevity. Ideally, semi would last all day for typical day cab truck drivers who drive 150 to 250 miles per day and then plug and charge with a slower charging rate to prolong battery life

Personally I think the future of transportation is not necessarily electric only. I think biofuels make more sense environmentally because you don’t have to change existing trucks to use it and you don’t need to mine for battery components.

Would like to see how these perform in mountain driving, steep grades and downhill braking.

I drove truck in the United States from 2001 to 2011 over the road trucking. You'd have to change how long haul trucking works in order to make that functional. Essentially only one way I see it working. You'd have to run trucks in relay. Long haul would be over. They'd just run their short leg of load, and return with a load going back.

A company here in Québec is having an electric Volvo and they say their range is about 150 km per day which is 100 km under advertised range. Still work to do before diesel engines fade out.
