I was asked why I did not discuss books on Relativity so I will say why and cover that topic a little. I will also introduce a few sundry classic books to have on your shelf.

Sir you are awesome keep doing the work you do.I am computer science student and was always fascinated by physics, now i finally decided to follow my passion side by side so i was looking for books on relativity and discovered ur channel and it is awesome !!

Yes I remember opening the Feynman Statistical Mechanics book.and seeing on a first page definition of partition function which made me close the book, I was not ready.

I keep watching these great videos when what I should really be doing is reading the damned books!!!

Great Reviews! I'm going to pick up Lightman. Lightman, et al., by the way, is currently cheaper than Shutz. Very reasonable.

Hi! I was wondering if you could help me with this. So, I am an undergraduate student in physics and I just learned the basics of Special Relativity! One of my peers gave me a book called "Problem book in relativity and gravitation"by Lightman. The problems in it are, to be honest, very hard for me. I even do not understand most of the problems. Do you have any suggestions on which book should I read first in order to deal with the problems in it?

Dr. Dermot,
Thank you for another great lecture. I'm an Applied Mathematics Major, and was curious if you would do the same videos + differential equations + ....

The best one you missed, Hartle's Gravity

Respectfully, this man needs a television producer to assist with these videos. For example, he’ll sometimes hold up a textbook to the camera, say “ this is lousy” and not clearly identify the author or the text. Can’t read the title on my phone. And even if I could, his summaries are so concise as to be worthless. Titles and authors usually not written on the board. $ should not be the overriding consideration. $167.5 buys dinner for one - maybe - at a NYT reviewed restaurant in 2023 .BTW, I have a PhD in Mathematics and survived the Qualifying Exam in Differential Geometry. That said, I appreciate the difficulty of his task and I could probably not do any better. Which is one reason I haven’t made a video.

Then there's Dirac's compact little monograph on General Relativity...

There are discussions of solution of Einstein equation including Schwartzschild metric around chapter 5. It is a good book if you want to be precise talking general relativity.

Shutz has also a very good book on general relativity.

Dump of Bad Books:
gravitation - Wheeler et al
Gravitation and Cosmology - Weinberg

hey, kip thorne has a big section on General Relativity cap IV, and its great, but ok Weinberg it's a worldwide reference best book, your tensorial general relativity today its unuseful and complicated

You are corect. It is confusing. I will redo this using an Omega.

There is a book by Feynman on GR called Feynman's lectures on gravitation. Is that book worth purchasing?
Thanks

You can get pauli book for 15 dollars and 8 dollars slightly used, the hardcover is only 23 dollars that's incredible and is my next book.

Gravitation would be [actually it is] a fine resource but it's needlessly big. The print is big and spaced. There are huge, mostly empty, margins and pictures of mathematicians. It's the worst design. So everyone has it, but few people read it. I like the sections on differential geometry and forms. Schutz is great. I like D'Invernio too.

Hobson's relativity is excellent, especially for those interested in cosmology. It is at the level of Carroll's but without the price.
