Climate scientists have defined a set of nine planetary boundaries that decide how well earth system functions for humanity to survive. Recent findings show that the planet has already breached six of these nine boundaries, with dire consequences ahead. ThePrint #̦PureScience, Sandhya Ramesh explains.

Petition to remove the background music from Pure Science videos. Us attention deficit peeps already have a tough time & I feel the music tones down the importance of the journalistic piece. I hope this sincere request reaches out to the team @ The Print.

Hey SR, love the videos. But do consider getting a good microphone or a dedicated voice recorder. Your videos deserve better.

If you take into account that we already reached 1.5 degrees above preindustrial a number of months ago, very few of these climate change presenters remain authentic to what they stated would, and now is, happening.
Years ago they said the window would soon close, and the longest “soon” from then ended quite a while ago.
With most of the forests not being carbon sinks, 3 degrees of warming will be reached before the end of the decade...not the end of the century.
They’re trying to use linear explanations to a system that now has obvious exponential and irreversible factors at play.
They can’t accept it’s too late to act effectively.

Hi SR like so many of your viewers I am one who also looks forward to your video/presentation. The topic you have chosen needs urgent attention not only from world leaders but from each one of us. My suggestion to you would be since this topic is so important and the reason for you to present this is you want this to be an eye opener for your viewers but there portions of the video where you have going through everything at a very fast pace ( just felt like you were reading it of a prompter ) and there were portions which I didn’t quite follow . Maybe you could have broken this into a 2 part video and explained every line in a very simple manner like how you would probably explain to a child or your grandmother ( remember as a viewer all this is new to me you know this but we don’t ). You have an in-house mentor Mr Shekhar whose videos are presented in the most simple manner. Hoping my suggestion is taken constructively and if not I do apologise. Looking forward to more great videos and if this presentation can be redone would be great. Thanks

@ThePrint... Kindly request to avoid using background Music (BGM) for such videos. The Content is also not so clear. On top of that I hope Ms. Sandhya gets a proper Mic with noise cancellation and Echo controller Studio Room. There is a lot of Echo in most of her videos. Such interesting content needs more clarity.

Excellent information. Please work on sound quality. My video streaming friends all say sound quality is 90% of the battle. Sound reflections in the room are muddying the sound quality and making it harder to understand. I'm no sound engineer, but there are simple low cost methods that work nicely. The room I use for my video chats has decorative rugs on two walls and a throw rug the floor. They greatly reduced the echoing from the plaster covered stone walls. Also a body mic can improve the sound greatly by capturing it at the source. Any reflections are then at an much lower volume level compared to the spoken word.

Get better audio equipment.
edit: It's hard to listen to data when audio is bad.

Excellent presentation as usual. Thank you very much.

Take clothing and towels and throw them around the room to avoid the room reverb if you can't afford acoustic paneling, use anything the sound will get absorbed into.

Investing in a lavalier microphone wouldn't be a bad idea.

Many people overlook the vast importance of the quality of sound in education, we evolved to listen to real, in person sound, it is easier for our brains to process, so the better the audio quality is, the easier to listen and therefore learn. It doesn't matter how good your lesson plan is if your audio quality sucks or if your voice is monotone (hers is not monotone, even though as a native English speaker I find the Indian accent one of the more difficult to decipher, but that is another subject).

Sound quality is actually very important to online education but it is sadly overlooked.

The earth energy imbalance which is determined by radiative forcing is out of control. EEI has gone from around .5 W/sq meter in 2000 to 1.92 in June 2023. A lot more heating is coming.

Excellent! Having studied this for some years my friends and even my wife say I am a doomer. In my more lucid moments I fear I am right.

An ambitious and important presentation. Thank you ( please experiment with your voice more -- speaking in a high echo room is difficult to understand, maybe better suited for a whisper. Next try a small room surrounded with fabrics to absorb echo. Keep trying. )

Quotes from the UN's IPCC AR6 WG1:
Flooding -
“the assessment of observed trends in the magnitude of runoff, streamflow, and flooding remains challenging, due to the spatial heterogeneity of the signal and to multiple drivers”
"Confidence about peak flow trends over past decades on a global scale is low."
"In summary there is low confidence in the human influence on the changes in high river flows on the global scale. Confidence is in general low in attributing changes in the probability or magnitude of flood events to human influence"
So in absence of detected trends, there won’t be much ability to attribute to humans. You can't say floods are caused by, driven by, or intensified by climate change. The evidence doesn’t support that.
Drought -
"There is low confidence that human influence has affected trends in meteorological droughts in most regions"
So no real evidence we changed the weather to cause periods of dryness.
Tropical Cyclones (TC) -
"Identifying past trends in TC remains a challenge...There is low confidence in most reported long-term (multidecadal to centennial) trends in TC frequency - or intensity based metrics"
So we can't spot a trend and therefore we can't really attribute that unknown trend to us humans.
Storminess - outside the tropics (ETCs) -
"There is overall low confidence is recent changes in the total number of ETCs over both hemispheres"
"Overall there is low confidence in past-century trends in the number and intensity of the strongest ETCs"
So we don't know what's happening with winter storms, so we can't say it's us that changed them.
Tornadoes, hail, lightning, thunderstorms, extreme winds -
"It is not straightforward to make a synthesizing view of trends in severe connective storms [thunderstorms] in different regions. In particular, observational trends in tornadoes, hail and lightning associated with severe connective storms are not robustly detected"
"the observed intensity of extreme winds is becoming less severe in lower to mid latitudes"
That's between 60°N and 60°S, so pretty much where everyone lives.

I've subscribed with hope for your potential. Please consider broadening your gaze and scope as all the planets in our solar system are experiencing climate calamities. We are neck deep in a solar/galactic climate catastrophe that is a cyclical occurrence.
