ROG Ally X in 2025; why I bought it

Is it the best handheld PC right now? Hard maybe.

I got mines used a few months ago for $550 it’s been an absolute dream! I sold my PS5 and went all in with the Ally X since it’s been my first step in PC Gaming. I even bought a RTX 4070 Super to dock as an eGPU and installed a 4TB SSD lol. Now that FSR2 and Lossless Scaling 3 is available you can a huge boost in performance and FPS solely using the handheld and iGPU.

I have the Rogue Ally X docked playing FFXI on my 4k tv with full mods w/ wireless mouse and keyboard. Amazing... also overwatch 2 plays great!

I love my Ally X . After buying then returning then buying again I realized it plays a significant part of my day to day being a father of 4 and not having anytime for anything extra. Purchased Second time around open box and felt easier on wallet lol.

I bought the OG ally, hated it, upgraded to the z1 extreme, liked it a little better and was gonna settle on that but then I played the X and fell in love! It’s my favorite handheld on the market

The important question and what I’m waiting for is the ally x’s response to the MSI Claw 8. That’s what I’ll buy.

I'm not sure why he says there's a learning curve here with the Ally X. I figured it out in less than an hour. My Ally X is now very much "pick up and play". I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a handheld gaming PC. If you can't wait, go for it.

I love my Ally X. I had the Legion Go, and the OG Ally Z1 Extreme. Picked mine up on Black Friday for $100 off, and sold the other 2. In do miss the larger screen on the legion Go, but otherwise the battery, extra RAM, and 2280 M.2 SSD are way better to have. I take mine to work, and on trips with zero worry about the battery life. It's a game changer.

Good video. After the learning curve, honestly, the WIndows handheld is the way to go. I have the OG Ally and wish it had the extra RAM. It's a very capable machine and VRR is the main reason I bought it. The Deck 's hardware is too weak these days, and no VRR. My Steam Deck collects dust, unfortunately. It's a great emulation machine.

Recently buy i myself i and i love it, had a steam deck and switch Oled, have a nostalgia for hand handheld consoles😃 My gaming pc, PS5 and Xbox collect dust for now🤣

I got the z1 extreme, I still love it remove armoury crate, install ghelper and playnite as it's replacement, debloat windows and setup syncthing to sync saves to your PC, I also setup zero tier VPN to watch my jellyfin server. Love it

It sits rights next to me nightly. I play it more than my consoles. Rog ally x and the nintendo switch for me. Once you get use to the quirks on the ally x - you start to love it.

After seeing the Lenovo Legion Go 2, I’m not sure if I should wait for the release or just buy the ROG Ally X now instead, I’ve never owned a handheld PC before

Bro what kinda parallel universe we living in because i got mine yesterday as well and it is open box too... i was thinking of going with steam deck but more compatability was too good to pass on

You can also use the right stick as a mouse and the r1 and the r2 are your right and left click hope that helps when browsing.

I just bought one, and it's my very first PC handheld and I'm beyond impressed. I was in your shoes looking for a PC/console for living room and grab and go, easy to carry. And may I say Nintendo switch emulation is incredible on this, my steam library awesome 😎 and PlayStation AAA games porting to PC it's a no BRAINER, I look at it as a good investment!
