When my husband and I got married someone gave us a a pantry starter kit like this and some Tupperware and a few simple recipes and it was honestly one of the best gifts we got!

I recently heard a really great idea for those who do want to do this for a food pantry donation. Place a cake mix (and small bottle of oil if necessary), frosting and package of candles in a Ziploc bag so that someone has a birthday kit ready to go.

When my oldest daughter first moved out and moved to a different city I bought her a large good quality laundry basket and filled it with toiletries, paper goods, cleaning and laundry supplies, , a roll of quarters for the apartment laundromat machines, a large supply of pantry basics and common food items as well as a grocery store gift card along with some overflow household items. When the middle child moved out I did the same with her. They were both very appreciative and it lessened the sting of their moving out knowing I was helping them get set up and saving them money knowing they were starting from scratch and it is expensive. I still have one left at home and I’ll be doing the same for her. They know if money is tight they can always shop my overflow pantry.

When I travel to AZ to stay in a condo with a kitchen I always stop at a dollar tree to get condiments, relish, many of the things I just watched! Thanks!

When I was younger and knew I was going to be leaving home, I started shopping several months ahead and bought the staples like spices, canned goods, paper goods, laundry items. It was just a few dollars per paycheck but it helped not to be hit with a massive first grocery trip. When my daughters moved out for college, we did the same thing for them during senior year. It helps to spread out the expense.

I always make my 13 and 16 year-old watch these videos with me. They may not always listen to me and take my advice so I am hoping they will listen to a stranger that's fun to watch. They will thank me one day!

This video would have saved my college freshman butt! I’m 25 and it’s still relevant for me. Thanks for taking care of us and being our internet mom Christine.

You are one of the nicest, most sincere gals on YouTube. Loved the video even though it’s totally irrelevant to me (I’m 65 w/ a great pantry!) and watched it to the end. You can really hold one’s attention. Keep up the good work!

That’s super thoughtful to donate a starter pantry.

Make sure it's garlic powder, not garlic salt! I made that mistake! I'd add peanut butter to your list. So versatile!

Also from the dollar tree, frozen fruits, I'm always letting my fruits spoil, so now with the frozen fruits, I can make smoothies whenever I want. Blueberries cost so much! you can get a small bag for a dollar! I also love the frozen tv dinners, banquet, Salsbury with mac & cheese...delish!

The DT pickled jalapenos are some of the best you will find anywhere. Great flavor and crunch. And that pink salt is an absolute steal!

I volunteer with an organization that helps people get back on their feet, this would be a great gift for a single parent or couple (anyone) getting back on their feet; I was originally thinking homeless but fire, hurricane, any disaster…

Love, Love, Love these videos❤️

A pantry is the key to saving money. Have the basics and then just buy some fresh ingredients when you need it.

One suggestion I’ll make is to have a bag of unpopped kernels and air pop them. Makes for a cheap and healthy snack with lots of fiber. I buy a bag for 1.50 at Walmart and it can make like 20 bowls of popcorn.

I didn't realize that the dollar tree chicken broth was so great until I tried it one day, and now I stock up no pun intended on it thru the winter to make my soups.
