What they don’t tell you about carbon-fibre. 1. It's not real carbon- fibre. They use a synthetic material called polyacrylonitrile. 2. Its Not solid like the metal on alloy bike frames e.g. steel, aluminum, etc. 3. carbon- fibre bike frames are glued together (literally). They take sheets of the polyacrylonitrile and glue them together using an epoxy resin. 4. polyacrylonitrile is non- fusible. Hence, "glued together". Whereas the metal on alloy frame bikes can be fused together using heat, welding, etc. 5. polyacrylonitrile is technically a thermoplastic.
