The fruit flies in my house must have seen this video, they're just sitting on top of the plastic laughing at me.

I tested this trap out vs a version with NO COVER on top. To my surprise, the open-top trap VASTLY OUTPERFORMED the saran-wrap-with holes top! Both worked, but the one with no top killed more fruit flies, by a margin of almost 2 to 1. I used glass jars instead of plastic cups, and added a teaspoon of sugar to the mix. I think the dish soap is the key that kills the flies, essential makes the water's surface "fruit fly quicksand" by reducing the surface tension. Yeah, so a few flies escape out the top, but apparently the come back for 2nds and 3rds and eventually the quicksand sucks them in.

one of the little bastards flew into the cup of apple cider vinegar before I even added the soap... LMAO

It's easier to just burn the house down.

This glass of vodka, red-bull and cranberry juice I just made for myself is apparently a good trap... barely took 2 sips of my drink and one of the little shits flew into it...

It was cool to have like 12 fly homies greeting me in my kitchen every morning.
But they let their friends know and now it's like that Hitchcock movie with all the birds

Years ago I had done this very thing and caught a bunch of them. I had forgotten just what went into the cup, so I'm glad you reminded me. Thanks!
I went on vacation and when I got back, although I had given away everything I thought would be a draw, for some reason I had lots of the stinkers when I got home! So now I'll be making several of the "magic" cups and welcoming the little guests as fast and possible!
Thanks again!

Thanks a lot mate, although I implemented this a bit different (used a short funnel instead of wrap) but it worked like magic. By the time I got back from work not a single fly was out, all were captured. You really helped big time in getting rid of rather annoying & somewhat embarrassing problem 😅

Oh my gosh, so many flies you trapped! I have one fly attacking me for 2 days. I read they can lay 500 eggs in 8 to 10 days. They must be stopped! I was going to buy two traps for $15. from a website I went to. But then I searched yt and saw this video. Thank you so much. I subbed in appreciation!

Fruit flies are watching these videos and their adapting to these traps!.. What they do is play dead and when u toss em out they wake up and go to another house and make 500 more eggs😂😂😂

I must have some SCHOLARLY F'ing fruit flies because they are just "hanging out" on top of the plastic cover and not to many are actually going in after the cider.   I guess I'm just gonna use it as a lure and then ambush-spray the hell out of them while they're partying on top of my traps.

To EZPZ (GREAAAATE anagram!!!), THANK YOU Much!!! I have made traps w/ 1 liter plastic soda bottles. I would but yogurt and honey inside of it. Then I used a thin open napkin and twisted 1 end til it has a wide open area at the bottom of it, and very tightly wound on 1 corner. Shoved the napkin inside after the other stuff was put in so the paper stayed clean and dry. Now the entire napkin is inside the bottle minus 1/2" that is sticking out of the spout. Tape the wound piece onto the outside opening. This created an EASY large opening, but VERY hard to get back out because they'd get lost in climbing up the napkin deeper inside of it. None got out, once inside. Yet, I have never got all of 'em. AND I didn't catch more than maybe a dozen per day. 15 minutes after this video, I had four cups, by your EZPZ directions. Let's see what happens in the morning! (They go after my guinea pig's food. Very hard to stop once they start. I care for her well...but now and then, she drags a piece of all the fresh veggies/fruits and leaves it inside her lil hut= VERY IRRITATING gnats/fruit fly/itsy bitsy flying irritants. Thanks again. I'm very excited to see if I got most of them. I will update.

Bleach your drains and place trap over the drain. Flies lay their eggs in the drains which is why the cleanest house can get them. Not all vinegar works the same, don't know why but it doesn't. If they aren't using the trap but are dive bombing your beer, just use beer in your trap. I upped my game using a larger container with a small cup filled with sugar/yeast and some fruit.
