Do you think it was right for Nasser to nationalise the Suez Canal?

The more I watch your channel the more I realize how little I know. And that's a good thing.

Comment Dec 06, 2023. Recollections from a British press release at the time....Britain & Egypt had an agreement that Britain & France would manage the canal for 10 years. After a few years Nasser decided Egypt should take full control. Efforts by Britain & France to enforce the original agreement were denied by Nasser who intended to retain all income from international ships. Britain sent new troops to enforce the original agreement, however Nasser responded by ordering the canal to be blocked by sinking cargo ships. This blockade prevented any use of the canal and the following events are including in the Hikmar History channel's video.

Did you made this video after the recent Suez canal blockade incident?

I remember watching the episode of The Crown about the Suez Crisis, many say it marked the end of Britain's status as a great power. I'm not so sure about that, but it was definitely a big blow for them.

23 November 2023. Thanks for the interesting information. It seems that a lot of people do not know the full history of such an important man made structure.

It is funny to me that France and the UK were willing to go to war over the expropriation of their property... a canal on Egyptian soil, expropriated by the Egyptians, a matter entirely internal to Egypt.

as an Israeli, it's interesting to hear the other's side description of events

Darius completed the canal, not his current route through the Nile and took Egypt's annual tribute by sea.

Pretty good but you failed to mention the first Suez Canal was constructed by Darius the Great. Look up "Darius the Great's Suez Inscriptions"

I would like to add, that the geological history of the Sues goes back a bit further. At some point in pre-history the Red Sea and the Mediterranean was connected, and if my memory is not wrong humans where inhabiting the region during that point (not sure if there is any evidence if trade was happening by that point)

President Nasser deserve so much credit for the organic politics of contemporary 🇪🇬! Why did 🇮🇱 intervened once canal was nationalized? 🙏
