By pruning your June blooming clematis now after it is bloomed it will send out new growth and new shoots from the roots. If you wait too long to prune the new growth will not have time to mature and hardened off so it can make it through the winter. Plus you get to have another blooming season this year from the new growth. The new growth next year on this years new growth will provide more spring flowers to enjoy. And you just repeat this each year.

Wow. I would never have guessed that they needed to be cut back like that. I don't have any of these flowers but it's good learning in case I do have some some day. Thanks.

A job well done Bernard will most of them re-bloom this fall or do have to wait until next spring?
