My Thermostat is Flashing RE CO

My thermostat is flashing RE CO.

RE CO is the abbreviation for recovery.

I’ve never heard of that error before.

I know Hunter brand thermostats use it. Hunter thermostats in auto recovery mode will alternate flashing RE Co and the time.

Why would it flash the time?

In Hunter thermostats, auto recovery lets the furnace recover from an energy saving set point to a comfort set point, like too hot to comfortable.

So it flashes the time until the issue is resolved.

Yes, and it will flash like that while it is tracking the time until it needs to go to the next step in the furnace program like turn the furnace back on or engage the blower.

I don’t think I have a Hunter thermostat.

If you had a Hunter thermostat or Climate Technology Corporation thermostat, you could turn it off by putting the recovery switch on the back of the circuit board to disable it.

How do I get rid of the flashing RE CO error then?

You have to reset it.

I don’t know how to do that.

Hold down both the buttons on the thermostat for around five seconds to reset it.

Hitting cancel or hold turns off the recovery.

Turn off the thermostat or the furnace and you’ll do the same thing.

If I turn the power back on, I’ll have rebooted the furnace.

I know it sounds weird, but sometimes the smart HVAC equipment now needs the same dumb tech support as a gaming console.

I don’t think it is smart.

The recovery notice is part of the Adaptive Intelligent Recovery in new energy efficient thermostats. The RE CO flashing means the thermostat is still learning when to start up the system so it reaches the temperature you want by the next cycle.

So if I don’t want to see that notice, put on a temporary or permanent hold.

That or keep the house at a constant temperature. After all, it is only in recovery mode for ten minutes before you get home as the furnace switches from 65 during the day and ramps up so the house is 72 by 5 PM.

That means it isn’t really an error but a status message.

But if you don’t want the house at 72 all the time, take the thermostat from its base and flip the recovery switch on the back to disable it.

Or put program on a simpler temperature profile to mean I see the notice less.

And make sure the thermostat wars stop so the thing isn’t constantly trying to recover from all the setting changes.

Thanks so much for the info about the Hunter Thermostat. as soon as I flipped the switch on the back of the thermostat to bypass the RECO feature, that bitch kicked in to heating up the house immediately !! Before that, it was colder than a mofo in my house !!

That was so awful with no fluctuation in voice that I didn't retain a word they said. I just went to other reviews to read what to do. smh
