I recently had the need to fly from Dallas to Miami, and at the time, American Airlines was operating both the 777-200 and 777-300/ER on this route. Since I had already reviewed the -300/ER business class product several years ago, I figured that it would be smart to give the -200 a try.

This is a full American Arlines 777-200 business class review, complete with commentary about how unexpectedly nice it was. I had no idea that the interiors of these 777-200s were so nice!

Total flying time from Dallas to Miami was 2 hours and 59 minutes, and I enjoyed every minute of it in seat 4A. The aircraft registration was N758AN.

Brother! The American Airlines 777-200s have Rolls Royce Trent 800 engines! Only the 300 models have the GE90S

Great video Scott! Totally agree about the 777-200's seat - it is definitely a cut above the -300's and is way more comfortable. PS: If you're quite fortunate you can fly MIA-LAX in Flagship First seats...AA is running a 77W on that route (at least in November!).

The 777-300ER is considered the flagship for two reasons. It is it's largest aircraft and the only type in the fleet with international F class. There answered it for you. The J class seats are better on the 777-200 because the type went in for a reconfiguration after the 777-300ER was introduced so the product is older.

I’m delight that you enjoyed our 777-200.I just worked that same flight a few days ago.We also fly the same Aircraft to Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel from Miami.

We flew the 200, 300er, and 87, and I liked the 300 er for long haul when I need to sleep because if you’re a side sleeper, your legs usually hit the table on the 200 and 87. But besides that, they’re all really great aircraft a lot more spacious than the Polaris seats on United.

Great Video as always. the cattle mooing during boarding made me laugh out loud. Its nice to see that you were on the "good" layout and didnt have any reverse seats on the -200 as some of the older aircraft do

As a 35 year frontline airline employee I think I could solve some of your criticisms.
1) Galley noise. Easy fix, remove the galleys and replace them with seats increasing the revenue for a while anyway. The lack of meal and drink service would help the bottom line as well.
2) You are nibbling grapes and cheese hurtling thru space at 500mph like some kind of ancient god, in airconditioned and pressurized comfort. Try a wicker chair on a Ford Trimotor with none of those comforts and at a greater adjusted cost basis than the flight in question.
3) No comment on the Loo Revue other that thank Heavens you wore shoes. If you had any idea how many go in barefoot... Gross. P/S the old Ford Tri didn't have one.
Nice job, good work.

Great review as always! I fly these pretty regularly between mia-dfw-lax. I do agree the 772 has a better business class. However, they are powered by the Trent 800, not the GE90, those are only on the 77W

Great video Scott! I have never flown American business class but it seems like they are going in the right direction with the the reverse herringbone design. It’s kinda wacky seeing a 777 on a 3 hour flight tho.

I work the 777-200 A lot as I am a purser for AA. On the Collins seat . The tray table can be pulled forward towards you via a lever underneath the tray . I get this all the time from passengers. Happy flying !

The ing was everything!! Dont you think a cheese box is a bit cheap for a premium seat on a full service airline? Just me perhaps. Thanks for another fun review👍

I flew on an AA 777-300 back in 2013 from LHR-JFK (in Main Cabin Extra). I was connecting through LHR from Dubai on my way to Raleigh-Durham. AA had a non-stop from LHR-RDU at the time, but the connection time with my BA flight from DXB didn't work. I was a little disappointed I had to go through JFK but it was worth it to get the 777. The flight attendant said the plane had only been in service about a week and it even smelled like a new car. For my return flight I got the direct RDU-LHR flight on a 767 that was ready for the Smithsonian (quite a letdown after the brand new 777!).

The only reason I picked the 77W is because of that swivel chair in Flagship First. I loved the fact I was able to face the window! However, the 777-200 has more privacy, and that’s what I prefer. Great video Scott!

A couple years ago, I was trying all day to fly non-rev. from DFW to NYC. I tried multiple flights, rode the air train a couple times, and ended up getting tickets from United through Houston to NYC for the next day.

Flew on the AA 777-200 in May in business class from LAX to MIA. Loved it. Trip review out soon on my channel. Stayed at the Grand Hyatt at DFW last week and actually wasn’t that impressed.

Thank you for sharing this video, even though it's an older one, it remains valuable. I wanted to point out that the reason the 777-300ER (773) is considered the flagship aircraft for American Airlines is that it's the only one in their fleet equipped with an International First Class cabin (with 8 seats at the front). The 777-200ER (772) was initially planned to have the same Business Class seats as the 773, but due to licensing issues with Cathay Pacific (as the 773's Business Class seat was also used by them), American Airlines had to select a different seat. The original plan involved a ying-yang configuration, but those seats encountered many issues, particularly in terms of movement when the person behind you shifted—this could be quite bothersome, although the seats themselves were comfortable.

In my opinion, the seats on the 773 are far superior. Your legs don’t have to go under the screen in a confined space, the seat is much wider, and it offers almost the same level of privacy, though they are a bit older. However, they are much more comfortable for sleeping.

Regarding the "big seat belts, " those are actually airbags. The issue stemmed from FAA certification, mainly due to timing. American Airlines had to quickly install new seats on the 772 after the licensing problems with the previous Safran Concept D seats (also found on the 787-8). They opted for the Collins Aerospace seats, but they weren’t yet certified for the 772. Somehow, the FAA’s solution was to require an airbag instead of the shoulder belt (go figure). These seats have become extremely popular nowadays, and they are indeed modern and very nice, although I find them a bit cramped, in my opinion.

I also just flew the American Airlines 777 but it was a -300ER form LAX to DFW but I was in first class seat 1J. The reason American Airlines presents the 777-300 as their flagship it’s because it’s the only plane in the fleet to have a different first class then business class

Hey Scott Great video as always! The American 777-200’s actually have Rolls Royce engines, not GE-90.
