Playing for 28 years at this time, most of my (old) colleagues are either deaf, retired or both. My ears are my precious. My advise to the youngsters, keep your ears safe.

I used to do this as audience even. To walk around the venue to find the best sweet spot for sound.

yeah i've always done this because i want to know how my system sounds throughout the whole club. back in the day, i once did a jam in this center and it was PACKED. i had the subharmonic synthesizer going and the funny thing was that the bass was sounding ON TOP of the ceiling. it was the weirdest acoustics i ever heard

sidenote: also level ALL of the songs in your library. this way there is no worrying about volume level during the mix and no volume up / volume down adjustments of your sound system are required

My music producer is totally on it with sound. He did this thing with me on his computer where he said"stand over there and you won't hear anything" I thought he was having a laugh but when I went to this bit in the room the volume was much lower, it was crazy. It's nuts the way sound bounces. It's hard to judge when you are behind a DJ booth or a stage.

Excellent advice, , I always do this and always use my go to track which is Heavy Vibes by Montana Sextet..
I also do the same to set my baseline Eq.
