One other tip would be to try to sit near the kitchen if it is a cart-style restaurant, because a lot of the most popular dishes will get snapped up, plus they will be hotter. Also my family likes to order one a la carte plate of green veggies usually with garlic and soy sauce or oyster sauce, to offset the mostly meaty or fried traditional dim sum fare. Drink lots of tea too to help with digestion. One fun thing within Chinese families is to sneakily pay the cheque at the end before anyone notices. "I'm just going to the bathroom" while you grab the stamped card. Otherwise a tug of war and a playful shouting match to compete to pay might ensue. Points scored for the young person who manages this over grandma, just saying. Final tip - go with a number of people so that you can enjoy a lot of things. This is a communal treat!

This brought a tear to my eye, I remember my first spouse taking me to a famous restaurant in Guangdong Guangzhou to have dim sum and all the other delicacies shown in this clip during a longer layover we had at Baiyun Int. Airport. We almost missed our connection flight as the restaurant was way farther than we had thought, but it was all worth it. Those were the days...

Dim sum is one of my most favorite things in the whole world, har gau, char sui bao, shu mai, sesame footballs, sticky rice, spring rolls, short ribs, so many wonderful things 😍😍😍

Dim sum when eaten with others must be shared. It’s very weird to only order for oneself at a Chinese restaurant. We don’t eat like that.

I remember when I was 5-6 I went to a dim sum place where I lived (LA) I remember my dad ordering a lot of salted rice porridge (I don’t know what it’s called but my grandma cooks it sometimes) because I liked it so much

Thank you so much for the simple yet great demonstration. I’m sure our students would learn so much about Chinese dim sum culture by watching this

First time I had dim sum in HK and I was blown away... also I shared a table with 5 people who spoke no english but one old man told me to watch out for the 'hot water' for cleaning the dish? He said not for food clean. Since then I've longed for that taste again my favorite egg buns that are tasty!

I love dim sum but it’s hard when it’s only me in the family who can enjoy it 😢 (due to others allergies)… many dishes are for sharing… I hope to find a local place I can enjoy ☺️

I live 122 miles one way to the Dim Sum place. I take my cooler and buy in excess. I savor it the next day. I love Baked Bau and Rice Noodle, and Spring Roll, 😋

"Dim sum" is a noun. How to order dissemination, or how to eat dim sum

Everyone gets the etymology wrong or say a surface level literal translation. Dimsum mean "to Choose/pick by heart", not "touch of heart".

If you don't do pork and dont bother. The sticky rice is best option to keep your bill down get one for each person
Has pork usually. 2024 prices about 25 per person 4 items plus hot tea. Tea was cheap...
