Riven has worked occasionally in competitive. Usually i think they used it to counter melee mids. Talon yasuo etc.

Another reason. Riven plays teamfights by flashing on enemy backline. In controlled enviroment enemy adc always has flash up because there is no action happening.they just react to your flash. In soloQ they flash forward like monkeys spacegliding

Basically in pro play they trust their team enough to sacrifice some gold and exp so that later in the match they have the better team comp and thus win.

Riven offers no value from behind. She's a mix of CC, mobility, damage, and tankiness but not good enough at any of those to offer value over other picks. Occasionally a good lane bully counterpick

I feel this is the opposite of my main Azir lol. Like he is great in games that have good coordination and are slow paced. But he is trash when everyone is roaming around skirmishing early lol…aka 80% of solo queue games. It’s interesting how champs tier can change depending on environment.

Unrelated topic, I find it wierd how Riven is not among the popular champs in top lane right now, 2 reasons I think is either she's more of a 1 trick champ bcuz of the skill ceiling in my opinion, or 2 she kinda fall off compared to her pre season 11 were Cdr is so eady to access. And since the goat himself always said this "Riven will never be good if she's even or behind" while other top laners can be effective aside from 1v1 yknow like splitpushers and game changing ults.

In low terms, riven doesnt work in a competitive team fight
Useless in competitive team fight=doesnt work

Thing is, honestly it doesn't matter if shes broken in competetive. Where ninety percent of players would see her, she is broken. Interesting analysis though. It ultimately can be simplifed down further than that though. Even though riven has a LOT of damage, she offers signficantly less utility and team cooperation than most other top-laners. Damage is not the highest priority for picks in the other lanes in high, high elo. Everything is built around botlane and teamfighting, which riven is not good at. Doesn't mean her strong points arent extremely bonkers.

A much simpsler term is : Health % dmg / True dmg which every champ has nowadays raw Phys dmg.

I feel its only true for the average pro. Once you break through a certain skill threshold you jump from a c tier to a zzz tier champ.
And how high the threshold is is determined by the meta and the available items.
