Trash bags are also helpful; they keep clothes dry, you can throw the whole pack in one, and even use it for trash as well.

Extra Socks (super important) A Lifestraw or Frontier water purifier (much better than tablets), a Headlamp, Local Maps with topography, a few Mountain House meals, a few high calorie Cliff bars, something to cook in (preferably a small titanium pot) a canteen for water, Some Wysi wipes (google it) Also some sunblock, and small bottle of bug spray. There are many other things but all of these are critical and don't weigh much.
