"Epistaxis means bleeding from inside the nose. It is a very common clinical condition. Often, we see patients of all age groups coming scarily to the clinic with a nose bleed. It is infact frightening to see when a child or adult wakes up to see lot of blood around his nose and also spread over the pillows. So we need to know what are the causes of epistaxis, how it happens and what is it due to. Nose bleed can happen due to both local causes and systemic causes. Nose being a very vascular structure, it is supplied by both branches of internal and external carotid artey. Lot of these terminal branches confluence in the lower part of the septum called Little’s area. Any slightest trauma or other infection can lead to brisk nose bleed resulting in quite a scare amongst the patients.
