I've had Kangal's because they are perhaps the healthiest and longest lived giants. I've had two that lived 17 years and the other 16 years. Compare that to the Irish Wolfhound, and Great Dane:( Marvelous non-needy (opposite of say a lab) yet still highly intelligent and if you are diligent, highly trainable. If socialized when young, as adults they are often incredibly protective and gentle with children.

My Shih Tzu died 8 months back at an age of just 1.8 yrs. His passing was devastating. The best dog is not one that has the biggest size or largest bite force. But the one that can last the longest to share the love for the most period of time. Iam from India, and we have plenty of native breeds that have inherent immunity to the weather here. So getting a Tibetian Shih Tzu from the himalayas to the scorching heat of the Indian deccan pleatau, was a terrible mistake in hind sight. So please choose wisely. My next dog whenever my wife allows again will be a Indian Mudhol hound. Very well adapted to the climate and the native parasites here.
