Spraying the engine bay with water and peppermint oil wouldn't hurt anything.. the water will evaporate and the oil will be left behind .. most automobile manufacturers use weather proof connectors on the exterior connectors you can identify this by unplugging a random connector and looking inside one half their will be a rubber ring to seal out the weather : however I have seen water penetrate these connectors... A light spray shouldn't hurt anything .. remember when you drive in the rain water will splash everywhere including the engine bay .. great tip !! We use peppermint oil constantly

Use the air freshener Christmas trees that you buy in the store and douse it with the peppermint oil and then hang it in your vehicle engine. That way you can keep adding peppermint oil to the same tree over and over on a weekly basis. That works great too, because it absorbs the oil.

Thanks for the tip! New car.. new house… new rodents 😭 ate through some wire 2 weeks ago, thank God my son works at an auto shop. He fixed the wiring and put in what looked like 2 small pieces of corn cob but it’s poison. 2 days ago I’m driving along check engine comes on, pull over lift hood and another huge nest 😡 drove over to the shop son pulls out nest AND the biggest rat I have ever seen! (Dead from corn ) fixes wire.
Today I found another nest, cleaned it out decided to pull car up so I could see into engine with security camera and leave hood open. 10pm camera goes off and big old hoodrat having a grand old time.
Found your video and now have 10 cotton balls soaked in peppermint oil around my engine till I can deal with it properly in the morning. Mountain living. Hope the bears don’t like the smell of peppermint or I just traded one problem for another 😂

eucalyptus with or without rosemary, and use castor oil as a carrier to make it thicker may help. Insects of all types hate it and if they come in contact with it, they really get overwhelmed by the smell and it kills them. So, maybe it will deter rodents too.

Leave the engine cover off. It serves no purpose other than beauty, but mice love to hide under it.

Good advice! also consider cloves
Plus a small dish of cornmeal and equal parts baking soda --- mice and rats cant FART and will 'explode' after eating it.

You can buy peppermint plants, they are considered herbs, use the extra for your "mojitos", garden centers in the spring, but plant them where u don't care is they take over cause they will "take over" but if that is where u park your collector car for a long time the mint will help as it is right under the car.

I had mice in my engine. They chewed thru a few hoses and electrical lines. I will definitely try this before they do any more damage.

I have met and spoken to Shawn Woods and I am a subscriber to his channel. He lives in the area. I really liked his 10 trap rat trap. We had a problem with rats about 15 months ago and I made a modified four trap rat trap (four holer) using his concept because I needed to use it in the chicken house (let the rats in, keep chickens out). I caught 35 rats in and around my chicken house.

I am a believer that you have to change things up with rats; switch baits and use nitrile gloves when handling the trap. I used chicken feed, Black oil sunflower seeds, peanut butter and almonds and almond butter.. One night after trapping for about 3 months, I caught the big daddy in the four holer all by himself.

I got to a point that the rats quit coming to the trap, so I made 1/2" peanut butter and baking soda balls 50/50% and that finished the population off. Tried the cornmeal and baking soda and had no luck with it. Rat free for 6 months now. I loaned the four holer rat trap out to a friend and she caught over 30 rats on her farm.

Which air fresheners do you use? Trying to find them on Amazon, but can’t

I used to do both but with the peppermint on the cotton it's better because the water isn't diluting it, causing the peppermint smell to disappear faster.

Thank you for this video I appreciate it I've been living in my camper for about three-and-a-half years now I don't have roaches ants barely any flies but recently I've noticed rat droppings I know they're getting in I spotted one the other night I've put poison in the motor cavity area that helps for a couple of days but that's about it you saying peppermint oil because a lot of people have been saying that I'm going to try it thank you it literally keeps my dog up all night they're not exactly coming in but they could if they wanted to and I'm pretty sure they are maybe when I'm not home or when I'm sleeping thank you very much I'm going to try that ASAP

I'm going to try wiping full strength. Diluting with water doesn't seem strong enough to last. Also heard eucalyptus is good too

My mice actually love peppermint oil
Put it on cotton soaked with peppermint oil and they took the saturated cotton to make a nest

Guess the mice here didn't get the memo. Been spraying peppermint oil all summer in my truck, turned the heater on the other day and obviously the oil hadn't deterred them at all. Currently trying a real coarse grade of steel wool.

The Fix It Guy! So, is it 40-50 drops added to 8 ounces of water would you say? Thank you.
