In my honest opinion, just the ultrasonic sound isn't enough. It's the strobe lights that really scare these pesky critters away.

Wouldn't they eventually learn it poses no real threat and the reason the retreated was because the sudden change in environment? Ie sudden Bright lights?

Keep the camera going.... After a while the mice will act as if that thing isn't even there.... Especially if there is food close by....
