This Surprising Hack Will Keep Mice Away For Good

In this video, you are going to learn some cheap natural remedies that are incredibly simple and will help keep mice away for good.

Unlike Mickey Mouse, real-life mice aren’t funny at all.

These rodents destroy household objects and transmit diseases, so it's probably best to keep them far away.

The best way to prevent them from being lured indoors is to properly store your food. Also, your doors should be well sealed with door frames, and your windows should remain closed or protected by screens. Garbage must be placed in a safe place, like sealed trash bin.

In today's video we’re going to show you some easy, practical ways to keep these rodents away from your home:

Aluminum foil
We don’t know if it's the smell, the shininess, or the noise it makes, but mice hate aluminum foil. Try to cover their entrances or spread sheets of foil where you last spotted them.

Mint oil
Who would have thought that an oil that smells so good would scare off mice? Try pouring a few drops of mint oil on cotton balls and scattering them around the house, where you think the mice might be coming in. Since these little critters don't like mint, they’ll find their way out of the house quickly. If you don’t have mint oil, you can use the plant itself and place the pot next to the mice holes. Or you can put dried mint leaves in old socks and spread them around the house. This solution will make your house smell good, and scare the mice and even insects off quickly. Other foods with a strong odor like garlic and cayenne pepper have a similar effect.

Soap
Just like with mint oil, bars of soap with a stronger aroma may be pleasing to us humans, but are a major nuisance to mice. Find some soap with a strong odor, cut it into pieces, and scatter the pieces through the corners of your house, under doors, and by windows. The odor will help keep rodents away.

Heard mice scratching in my attic so I threw some Irish Spring up there. The scratching sound is gone now but it's been replaced by a lot of whistling.

Mice will get into everything it's not only food that they're looking for they are also looking for nesting materials and shelter and water. They also love places where they can hide so they love clutter. Young mice well chew on anything just to see if it's food or not.

I’m here to tell you, mint oil, cayenne pepper, Irish spring soap nor moth balls will scare mice away!! A few mice got in our house doing a renovation and none of these worked to get them out!

Blocking all their entrances with coarse steel wool is your best bet, worked for me!

This worked!! Fill a deep dish metal bowl (Dog food Bowl) 1/4 with oil. Above the oil spread peanut butter around the sides. Place a item next to the bowl so they can step up into the bowl. They will fall into the bowl and can't get out. I put in a spray bottle vinegar and spray the area's where mice are seen.

Irish Spring only works if the mice are British.

Mint oil works but fades quickly. And windows and doors may stop humans, but mice can enter thru the tiniest cracks between foundation and walls. They dont use the door. Lol

Thank you!! We've really been suffering this winter with mice. They're destroying EVERYTHING. Our storage room smells awful from all the mouse poop and pee. They're in our walls and ceiling. I have traps set everywhere and no matter how many I kill theres always still several more. I will 100% try some of these

Nope sorry the mouse chewed through the package of soap bars and started eating it. Best remedy I've found: get yourself a good cat or two! 🐈🐱

We had a rat problem and an expert told us to blend a small bottle of citronella oil with water in a spray bottle and use liberally where you see mouse or rat droppings. No more problem.

I have found that my $20 Red Ryder BB Gun from Walmart works pretty darn well. From 10 feet away, anyhow. Relax...we try to catch what we can with humane traps but as soon as the colony starts to get out of control, it's popping time! We do also use Peppermint essential oil (WAY stronger than culinary peppermint oil, don't use that crap!) and citronella mixed with alcohol and Ghost Pepper powder then pour it down all the cracks under our deck. Keeps the mice that like to nest under our deck gone. This only works in the late Spring/Summer, in the Fall & Winter, when it rains, we use medium-sized tubaware containers full of small holes on the sides and fill them with large, soaked peppermint/citronella essential oil wool balls (Yes, the large dryer balls work well and hold a lot). Tie a rope to the container so that it can be slid under and pulled back out for a refill every two weeks. Make sure it's watertight everywhere else and there you have it. When all else fails, it's OK, get a $20 BB gun and practice with it till you have a tight grouping (By 20-30 rounds you should be there) before shooting any small animals. I do not recommend a cheap a** BB gun for shooting animals bigger than mice/rats and of course, I would always recommend a humane alternative first.

Bleach with water is something I've tried and house mouse can't go near the smell. It's more effective than mint oil as I've tried peppermint oil and mint mouth wash. They work to a certain degree but bleach is too strong a smell for them. Onions don't work. Avon skin so soft works pretty good! Washing liquid with mint mouth wash is good in spray bottle.

I used to work in a shop that sold natural soaps with strong fragrance oils in them including mint. Rats used to sneak in and devour the natural soaps

Personally, I've been using live mouse traps so far. I've only heard a few in the attic, and I caught two. I'm really looking into prevention for more mice coming in after I caught the current population. For one, I think I need some grating for the rain pipes. I have a suspicion that's how they climbed up into the attic in the first place. Really annoying to hear them tunneling through the walls and insulation. Will try out the peppermint and soap tricks. Thanks!

I have had mice in my home at different times and the best advice given in this video is to seal all food items in plastic containers or if you have a pet cat, that would work well too ;)

I put a bar of Irish Spring under each front seat in my car. While I don't have as much trouble with them now, I must say the first year the mice (?...) ate half the full size bars, both of them. They do still get in but not as bad. I tend to eat in my car, which doesn't help. I always take food trash out when I leave the car. They do love hot sauce packets from Taco Bell, as well as Ketchup!

Be careful of Mint oil, I found out about it online a couple of years ago, I think it was Peppermint Oil. I bought a bunch, put it in a small spay bottle and sprayed all around my shop/garage. It had been infested w/ mice, spiders, and such. It killed everything... but I noticed my indoor cat was acting really sick. Seems that when you come in, they smell the oil, they love it! ...but It will kill cats too! Makes them badly sick. So I quit using the stuff. I tried changing clothes before coming in, but didn't matter. They are sensitive to it. So be careful if you have furbabies!!

To keep mice from going thru cracks/holes, get a package of PLAIN STEEL WOOL, and stuff them. Works every time.
