According to Strathmore " All papers in the 500 series pad line are archival quality, acid free and manufactured of 100% cotton fiber for enhanced surface durability and exceptional results". I love it, its not "technically" a student grade paper.

I tried a cheaper Canson with my Zig Clean Color and it was sooo much easier to blend on than the distress paper. I also like how much smoother it is in comparison. I've been wanting to try Arches! Thanks for the video

Thanks for sharing your tips about watercolor paper.I use Strathmore watercolor paper. It's cold press 140lb. I like it because it has a textured side and a smoother side to the paper.I find the smoother side works better when stamping. It can also take quite a bit of water.

Can you do a video like this on watercolor brushes? I tend to use the basic craft kind or water brushes, but want to invest in some watercolor brushes and would like some suggestions. Thanks!

The problem with watercoloring directly on the paper when it's still glued in to the block, the water can go through all the other sheets and warp them. It's always better and safer to tape the paper down on a separate surface :)

Such great information Kristina! I recently purchased the Molotow masking fluid pen and was so frustrated that the fluid would not come off from the Strathmore watercolor paper. Now I know it's the paper and not me! Thanks!

This was very helpful; I am almost out of the stock-pile stack of Distress Watercolor Paper I had ordered in the last few months, and am now ready to try the Canson Montval Watercolor Paper!

Thanks so much for this, Kristina! I have the Tim Holtz watercolor paper, but find that it really doesn't hold water that well and starts to "pill" if you work it too much. I've tried Canson Montval, which I like; but I think i'm definitely going to have to give the Strathmore and the Arches Hot Pressed a try!

Canson Montval is OK but Bockingford is much better and it's also archival. It's very forgiving and great for beginners.

Sandy Allnock turned me on to the Canson XL watercolor paper; it's inexpensive enough for me to play and experiment with. I do like the Distress watercolor because it's a nice white; it will match my card stock well. I've also used the large sheets of Arches hot press paper; I cut it down to fit cards.

Kristina, I got the strathmore hot press ready cut and tried out a few masking mediums. I have a molotow masking pen however mine is filled with Pebeo. I had no problem with the Pebeo, DS masking, or fineline masking (also blue in color) and had no problems whatsoever. But, I did have issues with masking tape! Even the delicate blue tape. I did have some tearing from masking fluid if I wrote to hard with it (I mean I really had to scribble!) but other than that no issues. To reiterate my other comment floating around somewhere below, the strathmore hotpress ready cut is on Amazon for a really good price for the 5x7 size.
