Using one diode is fun, but using a FULL BRIDGE RECTIFIER is even better

i love how everybody else had the same idea with the full bridge rectifier circuit

For people that may not know about this and are interested:
This is the most simple type of power supply you can build [components: a transformer and a diode], which can be still used in some applications but it's not the most efficient one because you're wasting the negative half-wave of the AC signal. To fix this issue you have 2 alternatives:

- Using another type of transformer with a third output in the middle of the secondary and a second diode
- Using a Graetz Bridge instead of a single diode

What both of them do is inverting the polarity of the negative half-wave, making it positive. This means we can make use of the full signal. Another important aspect of a power supply is to have a section that smooths the signal and to do this we can use a simple capacitor (or more capacitors in parallel) of value typically ranging from 1000-2000 uF or more. Another section is used to stabilize the signal but I'll leave it up to you looking for it on internet since the comment is getting too big 😅. Sorry if there may be something wrong but I'll fix it if so

Imagine making FULL BRIDGE RECTIFIER with the bigass diode.

"A MASSIVE ONE"
Oh wow, and here I thought that the 350A dual diode blocks that I have stocked were impressive😂😂

There's an additional way to handle higher current. Find a Diode with lower forward voltage vf, like a Schottky-Diode. The power loss is smaller, so the heat is lower. Or get a heatsink - suitable for diodes with flat package

if you use diodes to convert AC/DC you could be on a highway to hell.

You need three-phase AC here, the generator coils in delta configuration.
Wind turbines, too.

What exactly is boiling off the black diode? Resin?

In the next lesson we will learn how switching mode ps works 😊

Excellent work! The whole video is great, but I'm especially impressed by how perfectly you got it to loop

Is this just a short or is there another video?

Dude you are awesome thx for every video and I know, that gives you a lot of work to do!

oh yeah just add a capacitor and its dc. No word on how the rectifier is put together or how it works, no no, just straight to dc with a battery

Massive one? that is tiny. LOL. I have much bigger one in my welder and ones used at power stations are the real beast.

"massive" diode is a basic microwave diode, i've seen much bigger

Its no perfect dc, as soon you add a load i'll get a reaple cuz of the cap

Train mechanics may want to have a word with you about your massive diode... I think their smallest diodes do kilo ampères just for fun. ;-)

*** Enough with Vertical video shorts that are annoying !!! ***
Please use your phones HORIZONTAL mode in future !

Instead of a diode, try an "ideal diode"! Much lower loss!
